bigsmile hi

Finished sowing seeds in pots. I have various sunflowers, calendula, cornflowers, herbs, candytuft, sweet peppers, tomatoes, peas, lettuce, and a few other things to go into the garden this year. Yummy. I would do more but I really do not have much space - so I am growing a lot in containers (main crop potatoes, etc). I have also scattered various seeds in the garden. There is something very stoneage about growing one's own.

Working in the garden is a true blessing. I am digging over the old flower beds, getting more natural compost into the soil, and starting again. I will post pics when it is all in flower.

A young female blackbird has been trying to nest in the honeysuckle next to our patio door. I do not know if she will make it but she keeps trying. Sparrows, blackbirds, robins, redpolls are all busy feeding and nesting around the garden. The place is full of life. I am enjoying every moment out there.

I like your set up Skip. I really need to do my herb garden again but it is too late to start this season as it will be 100 plus degrees here in a couple of weeks. Basil, parsley and mint grow quite well here as does small sweet cucumbers. Baby tomatoes too but I haven't tried those yet.

Thank you very much for the visit and your comments, Pam. I too have basil, parsley, and mint; together with some chives and coriander. The seeds are just beginning to sprout now. yes

Hello John. I am pleased that you enjoy gardening. There is nothing to compare with growing our own food. It is a great satisfaction to grow from seed, raising the plant organically, harvesting, and eating. The fresh tastes is far superior to commercially farmed produce that is trucked in from hundreds of miles away. bigsmile

I have been doing the same,Skip .But no volcanic ash for me unfortunately. I use my own homemade manure and wood ash. The vines are promising this year. Kind regards to you.
BTW: I have got one sunflower too but not very high say two feet but already in bloom. It came from the seeds I used to give the birdies in the winter time.

Hello, Fifineleb, my friend. The plants are very late and slow this year. Kind regards to you.
