We pagans have celebrated the Winter Solstice since our earliest of days. Stonehenge and other such sites were built for the purpose of recording the exact day of the solstice. Winter is when most deaths occurred, either through natural causes or because of starvation. Some of the livestock was killed so that they did not have to be fed through the Winter and, as we only had very limited means of preserving the meat, we had to have a feast. The Christians 'stole' this feasting as 'Christmas'. We even decorated the bare trees and that has been 'stolen' too.

Anyway, this years Solstice Celebration is the night of December 21st to the dawn of December 22nd.
