Android is closed source software?

, , , , ,

Google have delayed The source code for Android 3.0 HoneyComb, again. Read this wherry good article from Ars Technica, that criticize Google for closing down Android.

The whimsical notion that Android is an open platform is a tattered fabrication that has been stretched beyond the average open source software enthusiast's capacity to suspend disbelief.

It seems that FOSS supporters, like myself have to find a new platform of choice for the next phone. Meego perhaps?

I know Android is just that, a fork of The Linux kernel. I know Google is only going afters its money to please the investors and everything. I am fine with that. But calling something Free open source software when it actually is the opposite, is evil.

Google isn't monopolizing for personal use, it's just halting fragmentation of Android platform that's all.

If you ask me about Linux i really don't know what to use, KDE, Gnome, Unity, Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, that's fragmentation, yes?

That's like saying, "if you ask me about cars I don't whether to use Ford, Isusu, Mercedes or Saab." rolleyes.
Or worse since you list desktops and distros in the same list. (oranges and apples)
Basically, you use the tools that serve your needs the best. up.

Just give me a Gnome and a .deb and I'm a happy camper.

It's the same as any commercial venture: it has to turn enough money to carry on. Once it's a viable commercial product - close the source and thanks a lot FOSS community.
