Of Mice and Men

Recently there was a murder. A woman was bound and dragged behind a speeding vehicle, across a lonely road. One would think: "put him away forever" or even "to death."But this doesn't seem to be in the cards for this case. Instead of pleading innocent or insane, he's pleading mentally retarted. This is actually interesting since a person with a dibilitating mental dissorder cannot be found guilty of a heinous crime... I believe (I know that they can't be put to death, I'm going off the news on this, by the way). So this guy may get off nearly scott free just because he has an IQ of 60. I just don't get it,if anyone else were to do this there would be no problem, open and shut case, but cince he's "challenged" he gets special treatment. Is it just me or is there a double standard here? I mean, if I did this I'd be dead already. They can't use the excuse that he didn't know what he was doing, because he had to have take quite a bit of time to bind a struggleing woman to the back of a car in order to drag her behind. The entire time there must have been something telling him that what he was doing was wrong.
But that's just what I think.
