Soubi Agatsuma is a 20 year old Japanese Arts major,and a spell fighter in the world of Loveless. His name in Romaji as sperate words SOU and BI means 'true beauty' and is pronounced Sobi,with a long O sound. Oddly enough the full term soubi or そうびin Japanese means 'equiptment' as well! It fits either way,as he does have a very beautiful bishounen look and is used as a sacrifices equiptment. His soul symbol is the blue monarch butterfly,which is also his trademark. They appeared when he fought Breathless in a mighty swarm to defeat them,and when he touched Ritsuka a few times. Funny also that Soubi hates butterflies and yet paints them as well.
It was discovered that his sensei Ritsu Minami, was one to collect and pin butterflies as a hobby. Thus Soubi somehow "became" one with them. An ex-student of Shichisei Gakuin/Nanatsu no Tsuki,which in Kanji means "The Seventh Moon Academy" and "Seventh of Moons".
It is unknown if Soubi is all Japanese,given the fact his hair is strawberry blonde and cat-like eyes are azure blue. His father was a normal neko-born human,and mother a Fighter.
They died in a serious and fatal car crash when he was age 5.
His mother not only gave her ability to Soubi as a fighter,but also her looks.
His mother fought in a team battle with Ritsu Minami as her sacrifice.
He was raised then by Ritsu Minami,who later raped him and took his "ears and tail" at or around age 15. In the Drama CD's,there is a painful part were Soubi returns to Ritsu Minami and says he is back to stay. He was wrong to trust them and betray his benefactor and needs to be punished. Ritsu then agrees and goes on to make Soubi forget Seimei and Ritsuka by beating him with a whip until he cries out and faints! Deemed "perfect fighter" for his ability to withstand pain,and bend spell words. On this back are scars of many past beatings.
Soubi was given to a then 14 year old Seimei Aoyagi by Ritsu-sensei,shortly after that ordeal.
Soubi lives alone in a loft apartment,often visited by his best friend Kio Kaidou and his young sacrifice Ritsuka.
And at one time the Zero boys Youji and Natsuo,after they fought.
Soubi doesn't work and his benefactor is Ritsu and Seven Moons.
But,in a Special Edition booklet of the manga Volume 3; it was revealed he had many odd jobs in the recent past.
Soubi also was revealed in having around $800 in the bank saved,having a drivers liscence at age 18,using a Sony Vaio,his favorite colors are red and gold,he uses an electric toothbrush,likes Hollywood productions,likes the Ambient group Enigma,and is easy-going. He also has a type A blood type and is a Libra born 9-28-82.
Kio revealed that he helped Soubi for a few years after Seimei died and has become like his "wife".
Soubi is labeled as a masochist,pervert,hentai,pedophile,gay,and even off-topic as a BDSM lover!
But these are all out of canon and fan-based opinions.
He does like pain and order from his sacrifices. Including Ritsu his teacher and benfactor.
He also wears gold rimmed glasses most times,unless casting spells.
He then takes them off,and appears younger and serious.
Soubi likes to wear half-buttoned shirts and khaki's or leather pants,turtle-neck shirts,women's faux fur coats,trench coats,high school jock jackets,tunics, and old thrift shop clothes. Very Visual Kei and beatnik. He appears in the anime,manga,and many pictures to have many a wardrobe. But he adores his purple and black coats trimmed in faux fur.
He smokes heavily when bored. Often lighting one then the other in a 5-10 min period.
He has stated he smokes a pack of Seven Star Menthols a day when bored!
Soubi is a blank fighter,and can be partnered with any sacrifice.
His Fighter name is Beloved.
Carved into his throat with a knife in a barbed wire pattern by his former "master" Seimei Aoyagi to own him back then. And it is said out of canon,that he also has a Prince Albert piercing on his penis,and another hot iron marking of Beloved on his chest. Of course the latter was a mis-drawing mistake of Kouga. Seimei,Soubi already belonged to Ritsu-sensei given he was abused sexually.
He had to own him by marking him.
But Seimei still would reject him every time!
Seimei also neglected Soubi. Treating him like an object.
Ordering him to kill many teams to the death,and when Soubi was hurt wouldn't aide him as to Seimei he was "dirty". Soubi was Seimei's "weapon" and "tool". There was no affectionate love. Not the way Ritsuka lets Soubi get close to him.
And yet,recently with Seimei's new fighter and true fighter-Nisei,things got worst for Soubi.
Soubi often feels rejected by Seimei,and afraid he'll get casted away even by Ritsuka.
He loves punishment and to serve.
The Zero boys also left him alone when he had affections for them, and thus he was pretty upset.
Seimei faked his death to get away from the laws of fighting written by Nanatsu no Tsuki. To break it is to die with your partner as a team.
Seimei was found at age 17 burnt to a crisp in his younger brother Ritsuka Aoyagi's chair at school. But,this wasn't Seimei or was it?
At Seimei's request in his will,he orders Soubi to become Rtsuka's.
Ritsuka is a troubled 12 year old. Beaten by his mother,missing brother Seimei,and totally confused by love and life.
Soubi meets Ritsuka at his school,and the two begin a strange quest of battling other spell fighters in Nanatsu no Tsuki/Shichisei Gakuin to find Seimei's killers.
Only to find that it was for nothing! It isn't Ritsuka Nanatsu no Tsuki wants...but Soubi!
Soubi stalks,and is at best overly-protective of Ritsuka.
Soubi falls for the boy who favors the "dead" Seimei,and acts out his affections in a perverted(shounen-ai) fashion. Kissing,groping,making out,and many rounds of,"I love you", which Soubi says all strengthen their bond as master and servant. So he claims. All to which mask Soubi's true fears as well.
Soubi is showcased as a perverted stalker and pedophile,by most standards.
He also says contradictory things and flirts with his feminine facial gestures.
But least we forget,Soubi was an abused teen and all he knows is these actions to young teen boys. And is following orders and trying to get into the boys heart at best. Also to escape.
No telling what games Ritsu-sensei did to Soubi to make him a "perfect fighter".
It was revealed that he lied to Soubi. That his brutal beatings and sexual abuse was to own Soubi as his own sexual slave and his own fighter.
He couldn't have Soubi's mother,so he tried to have Soubi.
One thing is clear Ritsuka "is" in away Seimei still controlling Soubi.
But,Seimei isn't dead or is he?
Nope!
In recent Zero-Sum,it seems Seimei is much alive! And Soubi was stunned as was Ritsuka.
Seimei also attacked using some of his own power! Claiming he was going to kill them.
In November's issue he is reluctant to have Ritsuka's love and approval.
Begging even!
Soubi stays quiet,and until last speaks out. Seimei looks pissed.
But then,he still wants Soubi as his fighter as well deep down.
He orders Soubi to still obey him by tearing apart the academy window so he can escape unseen by others.
Soubi obeys and uses his spells to tear apart the window for Seimei.
After Soubi is seen in a very off child-like way. Saying 'no' repeatedly and refusing to obey Ritsuka's orders even more. To him he had failed him,yet Ritsuka keeps trying.
In another recent issue,Soubi and Ritsuka celebrate New Years together.
Soubi tels Ritsuka so many things about Japanese cultures at New Years,that Ritsuka says he's like an old man!
Soubi says he doesn't like older elderly people much,because they ramble about old things.
And fans speculate that Nanatsu no Tsuki IS Seimei controlling others to kill his brother and Soubi.
More or less this is now true.
Seimei has kidnapped Kio and Chouma of Seven Moons. Oddly these are people close to Soubi he has injured.
There are only four people close to Soubi now.
Ritsuka,Kio,Yuiko,and Shinonome-sensei. To a least extint Ritsu-sensei,who he avoids but listens too.
These four have both a physical and non-physical bond to him.
The strongest two physical bonds are those of him and Ritsuka,and him and Shinonome-sensei.
Kio is the supposed college friend. Bisexual,married,and a tad dorky.
He claims to be the only real friend Soubi ever had after Seimei and him split.
He tries and tries to get close to Soubi. Failing everytime.
It isn't that Soubi isn't unappreciative of the kindness and affection,it's just that Kio is unaware of the holds on Soubi and his betrayls and needs to be punished and controlled. Soubi knows Kio wants just sex and a friendly thing.
And those he knows about,only make it worst for him to get close to Soubi.
He may already have seen parts of Soubi he isn't supposed to see. Spying and peaking in on Soubi at best when he is nude or unaware. For Soubi exsists as a shadow of Seimei to Ritsuka until recent in the manga. So much so,it's as if they are almost the same.
And Soubi has in himself fallen in love with the young Ritsuka,even though Seimei is controlling him. He longs for the boy sexually.
Not to mention Ritsu-sensei's teachings.
With Shinonome-sensei,there is first teasing. Soubi literally gets in her face so close they almost kiss!
He does this because he knows she likes him. He senses it.
He had seen her watching him before from the school.
And he knows what Ritsuka mentions of her.
She tells him her age. It is a shock given she has ears at her age,and is a teacher.
And teases more saying,"twenty-three? Hmm,well now. Pretty up there Miss. I don't go for older women."
He does this still with a teasing tone and it's obvious he is slightly attracked to her from the closeness.
Later,when Zero put a spell on her and plan to rape and take her ears and give theirs to her,Soubi steps in again. How he knew they'd be there or whatever is also odd.
The timing of such. As if he was stalking her himself!
He reverses their hold on her,puts her to sleep(not without calling her childish and a child. And holding her as she faints a tad intimately.),and gets his hand nailed badly by Youji.
After the confrontation,he seems to be a tad annoyed by her. Telling her that his bad injurry has nothing to do with her. Why should he withtake so much pain for her? Calling her slopping for not waking up quickly,and is very sarcastic and bitting to her.
Yet,his face is a mixture of emotions of sadness,understanding,rejection,and fear and he reveals his connection to Ritsuka. As if she'd know what he means.
And it's interresting to note,he tells her,"there can only be one. One who governs me. One who rules me. Ritsuka is the master. A teacher like you would never understand."
It is mostly his sarcasm that stems from his dislike of Ritsu being a teacher and older.
Somehow Soubi convinced himself that all older people and teachers are bad news.
And much later in the manga,when Yuiko gives Soubi's cell phone number to Shinonome-sensei in regards to where Ritsuka may be,a spark is set a flame.
Soubi,thinking that she is just as uncaring of Ritsuka as anyone tests her judgement and reveals to her Ritsuka's secret.
That he is an abused child.
Abused by his mother.
She tells him she cares,and he gives her an automotum.
That if she cares,she will help Ritsuka and his mother.
And if she can show that actions speak louder than words from her,he may fall in love with her and protect her.
But Hitomi is affraid. We have to see where this goes.
And we have to wait and see where this will lead in the last manga Book 8.
Will she win Soubi's heart? Will Soubi die to Seimei's power? Will Soubi kill Ritsuka or Seimei? Who knows!
Soubi has a close following of fans and RPGers and Cosplayers,who bring him to life. Both off canon in different aspects and lights beyond the manga and anime,and in canon,to make him seem to stay with Ritsuka forever.
In a melodramaticness and off-topic canon,Soubi is everything from a vampire,werewolf, wizard,father, teacher,to a sex feign who loves an older woman(Me in my role. I get alot of fanbase love)!
Whatever you want him to be,the fans will make him.
More and more bisexual Asian males and Caucasian females are playing as Soubi.
This is due to Soubi's bisexual nature in canon,and his feminine appearence.
A few fans even use Soubi and Ritsuka RPG senerios to meet other bisexuals and gays!
Others use Soubi in a mother/father/protector-like role with their own children.
There was one such older fan,who did this from prison to connect online with his teen daughter! Telling her to, "come to me when you need protection".
The most well-known place for Soubi's RPG fanbase is Myspace,followed by Livejournal and it's clone Greatestjournal,Orkut,and Xanga. To a lesser extint,Facebook, and Hi-5.
Ritsuka has an even bigger RPG fanbase! And although his fans make him every age from 12 to 20,he is always in canon most times. Unlike Soubi.
This is because unlike Soubi,his fanbase is strongly real-life emo kids and teens,who use him as a channel to their feelings.
And Ritsuka's situation is a real-life situation at best with a lot of teens.
I have had the honor of befriending Soubi both in his in-character canon persona through his fan-base,and his out-of-canon self in a romantic endevours in the fan-base.
Infact,I am the only woman Soubi is romantically attached to amongst the fan-base of RPGers and Cosplayers!
Thus I have the nickname Soubi's Girl,Beloved's Wife, or Soubisgirl.
