cuil, yahoo, websites, engine
...
Hmm, what is this "Cuil" I'm talking about?
Cuil is a new search engine that has just been released. This new search engine has appeared on my news sites and blogs, such as mine. Cuil hopes that they can compete with the big dawgs like Google or Yahoo, but how cool is Cuil? (Cuil is actually pronouced "cool") Well, the team behind Cuil consists of ex-Google engineers as well as the former AltaVista founder known as, Louis Monier. Listed below are some things that Cuil claims to have with their search engine.
• They have the world's largest index of websites.
• They display unique results.
• They care about your privacy.
• They have better search results than Google.
• They do not record the user's IP addresse.
• They understand how words are related so that results are more relevant.
That's some pretty big claims there.

How many pages does Cuil have indexed? Around 121 billion. Your first visit to Cuil brings you to a dark page with a search box. Looks decent. I did a few searches such as "Opera", "Firefox", and "CyberNet News". The search for Opera and Firefox lead to the first result being the web browser's homepages. While the CyberNet News search brings nothing close to their webpage on the first few results. The thing is, searching for "Cuil" doesn't even bring up their own page.
For now, I'll still be sticking to Google as my main web search engine. How about you? Do you want to be Cuil?

google, googleplex, inside

Google's main headquarters are located in Mountain View, California. The building is referred to as the "Googleplex", as the HQ is a complex of buildings. The lobby is featured with lava lamps, a piano, old server clusters and a projection of search quaries on the wall. The hallways are filled with bicycles and exercise balls. Each and every employee has access to the corporate recreation center.
Perks are all around the Googleplex. Such as work-out rooms, locker rooms, washer and dryers, a massage room, foosball, a baby grand piano, a pool table, video games, and ping pong. In addition, the rooms are stocked with foods and drinks.
Google is also taking steps to make their building "green". In October 2006, the company made an announcement to install thousands of solar panels to provide up to 1.6 megawatts of electricity. That's enough to supply 30% of the company's needs. In June of 2007, the company also announced that they will plan to be carbon neutral by 2008.
