The past as seen through "LEGOs"

, , , ...

"Lego" is an array construction toys made by the Lego Group, a private company held in Denmark. In the 1940's, the first "Automatic binding bricks" were created. They featured "studs" at the top and hollow rectangular buttoms. The studs allowed the bricks to be connected to each other and to create something. It also allowed them to disconnect, and make something else. They were first made from wood, but then converted to plastic, re-named, and were called "LEGOs". "LEGO" in latin, can be interperted as "I assemble" or "I put together". As I stubbed across the CyberNet News site this morning, I noticed one of there posts about the LEGOs, and a man who goes by the name of "Balakov" on "Flickr" which is a photo/video hosting site. Who re-creates famous events (photographs) which have happened in US history. Like "Iwo Jima" or the "Landing on the Moon". It's quite fascinating and yet so simple. :D You can see his collection of "Classics in LEGO" here. To your upper left, is the original Iwo Jima Flag Raising. To your lower right, is the LEGO-ed version of the Raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima. He's pretty good, huh?

Xiao Xiao

, , , ...

"Xiao Xiao" is the chinese word for "small" and is repeated twice in Mandarin Chinese. Zhu Zhiqiang, creator of an Internet Flash Cartoon series, features stick figure men performing some fight scenes. Xiao Xiao, the main character is placed in dangerous situations having to prove his marital art skills. Xiao Xiao is usually the black stick, while others are represented in other colors. If other sticks are black, Xiao Xiao is usually red. As seen in Xiao Xiao #9, a commercial for "CityPlaza". Some of the Xiao Xiao cartoons are interactive and game-like. All of the cartoons are in Adobe Flash format, #1 was originally in AVI but now has been converted to flash. #1 may be in low quality, but it's a great kick-off for the series.

The entire Xiao Xiao series can be found on the NewGrounds Colletions Site. I play and watch the series during my spare time when I'm not doing great blogging :left:, or when I'm bored. :D

Spice up your desktop.

, , , ...

We all use some sort of spice to "spice" up our foods. Whether we use parsley, pepper, salt, or basil. Spices make our foods taste and look better. And it's pretty simple. Bored of your food? Find a spice, and apply it. Same goes with your desktop. :D Bored of it? Simply find a new wallpaper, and apply it. But, the hard part is...where to find a good wallpaper. Well, maybe this blog post can help you with that. SocWall is a great wallpaper site. "SocWall" is an abbreviation for "Social Wallpapering". Yes this site was designed to be "social". Where you can comment, rate, and upload your own wallpapers. I've been using this site for about 1 month now and it gives great wallpapers. Try it out, see how it works for you. If you got any other great wallpaper sites, please comment. :D

Firefox Myths

The link above leads you to a page explaining the "myths" of Firefox. Does that mean Firefox is a bad web browser? No. :eyes: Am I being biased because I'm an Opera user? Maybe. No. :left:

The Future. Opera 10.

, , , ...

As most of you know already, Opera 9.5 Kestrel has been released :D . New features, new skin, and blazing speeds faster than ever before. The moment I first used Speed Dial, I was hooked. :eyes: Firefox was no more :raider:. A browser like this can't possibly get any better, can it? Well, yes it can, with Opera 10 code-named Peregrine. :sing: Sitting here, I wonder how they can make it even better. Auto-start system? Detecting when your near the computer (while it's on), sensing you want to browse, and it automaticly starts itself. :eyes: Saves you some clicking time there, :coffee:.
Nah, but that would be cool. Here are some things that I think will be featured in Opera 10.

:star: A new desktop icon.
:star: Even faster than now. :eyes:
:star: Passes Acid 3 and...Acid 4 tests. :insane:
:star: The Opera "First Run" page will feature the picture of a Peregrine. :D
:star: Google (Gmail particularly) will finally fully support Opera.
:star: Well, I can't really think of anymore...9.5 is already awesome. :D

:sst: If you have any viewpoints on when the alpha will be released, what features, or anything else about Opera 10, please comment. :D
