Dalton awoke from his training mission. The machine voice started again.
"You were in suspended animation with your brain active. Please wait while I stabilize your in-body chemicals for non-Onieronaut atmosphere."
A short amount of time later, the Onieronaut door opened, smoke fizzed around it. A pod next to his opened as well. Dalton and Aira stepped out.
He asked, "Hey, where'd you come from? I didn't see you enter the Onieronaut with me."
Veronica walked over. "Remember the girl that was laying on that platform over there? And you asked who she was?"
"Oh yeah...That's why you looked so familiar."
Veronica wrote some stuff on her clipboard. "Dalton. You passed three out of four tests. Consider yourself lucky."
Tilting his head, Dalton said, "How'd I fail the last test?"
"You didn't kill the soldiers."
"I killed one."
"You didn't kill ALL of the soldiers, Aira did."
Dalton put one hand behind his neck, "Heh heh...oops. Well, in my defence, Aira came outta' no where. I didn't ask for her help."
Veronica rolled her eyes, "You could've used your power to save yourself."
"But but, that CMP thing disabled my power!"
Aira walked over to a table with a cup in hand, sat down and took a sip. She started, "He never actually used the CMP."
Veronica jumped in, "That's right."
Dalton quickly got confused, "What? What do you mean?"
"All he did was say to his team members through his radio to use a CMP. You got scared, and quickly assumed it was already used. The lesson to be learned there was not to quickly assume and to not trust all intel you receive. Why do you think I let your headset access their frequency?" Veronica explained.
Dalton moved his lips to one side. "Hmm...guess I shouldn't assume so quickly."
"You should use your brain more too." Veronica said.
"Hey hey, this is my first time fighting people. Ya' can't blame me. Hey uhm, I have a question. Does my power still work when I'm not in the Onieronaut?"
Veronica replied, "Yes. But to a certain degree. You haven't fully harnessed your power. The Onieronaut amplifies your power. But in the Dream world, you'll need to practice more."
Dalton thought then said, "Hmm. Can I practice right now?"
Veronica looked up from her clipboard, "What? Now? No--"
She was cut off as Dalton frozed time. Aira was still taking sips at her tea.
"Uhm...Aira. How are you still moving? Do I need THAT much practice with my power?"
She set her cup down. "Unfreeze time and let Veronica explain. This tea tastes very good."
"Ook." Dalton walked over to Veronica and took her clipboard. He let time flow normally again.
"Oo!" Veronica continued. "Hey, give me back my clipboard!"
He handed back the clipboard. "Sorry, I was practicing. Like you told me." Dalton stuck his tongue out. "I have few questions." He asked.
Veronica set the clipboard down on her workstation and walked over to the beverage area. "Be my guest. Ask away." She grabbed a cup and began making some coffee.
"When I froze time and took your clipboard, Aira was still able to move. How is that? Do I need to work on my power that much?"
"Ah. She hasn't told you yet."
"Eh?"
"Let me explain the whole thing. Have a seat."
The two walked over to Aira's table and sat down.
"Ok. From the beginning..." Veronica took a sip, and stirred her coffee. "In real life, when the human goes to sleep. The brain sends out signals. Trying to establish a connection with the Dream world. Typically, humans can get a fifty percent connection to the Dream world. In which their brain thinks they can do whatever they want. But in reality...or dream-ality, no pun intended. They are just resting in the Dream world."
"I see..." Dalton replied. Seeing the others drink, he got up and got something for himself.
"The Dream world, is basically a future mirror of the real world. I'll explain why that is later. The people in the Dream world, the buildings, everything is real."
"So I entered this world, as you call it. By dreaming?"
"Yes. But your connection to the Dream world is one-hundred percent. Real life humans normally get fifty percent as I said before."
"So all the humans in this Dream world have a one-hundred percent connection?"
Aira chuckled a bit, then took another sip.
Veronica was baffled by Dalton's stupidity. "No no no. Haven't you been listening?"
Dalton got some threw away his tea packet and sat down with his own cup. "Apparently not."
Veronica sighed.
Aira said, "Hey. I was like this when you explained it to me, Veronica. You can't blame him."
"True...true." She replied. "Anyway. The people in the Dream world are REAL. The people from the real world can enter the Dream world."
"That makes a little bit more sense." Dalton raised his glass and took a drink.
"Good. Minds who get a fifty percent or lower tend to get nightmares and might not even dream at all."
Aira tapped on her cup.
Dalton said, "Looks like I've been getting a zero percent connection. I haven't dreamed about anything...'till now. Any reasons why?"
"I haven't got a clue." Veronica said. "But...it's a good thing you're getting a good connection to this world."
"Why?"
"Like Aira. Your one of the few Time Keeper's left."
"Time what-now?"
"Time Keeper. Your able to manipulate and control time at your will."
"That sounds awesome."
Veronica stood up from her seat and walked over to her computer. "But...with great power comes..." She was interrupted.
"Great responsibility. I know I know." Dalton said. "Why in the world, would I do bad things with such great power? I'd be helping people."
"If only that was true for every Time Keeper."
"Hm? How many are there?"
"As far as I know..." Veronica explained. "There are four. You, Aira, Clare and Gackt. The last one I mentioned, has turned sour."
"Who's Clare and Gackt? ...And when you say sour. I'm thinking you mean evil?"
"Your using your brain, Dalton. Great job." Veronica said and tapped on her computer some more.
Dalton rolled his eyes.
"Yes...Gackt has been using his Time Keeper powers for the darker side of things. And Clare is..." She was interrupted again.
"Clare is my little sister." Aira said.
"Thank you for interrupting me, Aira."
"No prob." She replied and took yet another sip of tea.
Dalton asked, "Where is Clare, by the way?"
Veronica started, "She's---" Then got cut off again.
"In Australia." Aira said. "Investigating the events that happened in Antarctica a few weeks ago."
Veronica gave a quick sigh. "You know what, I'll just let Aira explain it to you."
Dalton answered, "Alright then. Why is she in Australia, when it happened in Antarctica? "
"Oook." Aira said. "Predator observations have giving us the info to believe that Gackt has frozen time over Antarctica and taken it over."
"Antarctica? Why that place?"
"Well. Us advancing humans have developed a way to live in harsh conditions. Such as Antarctica."
Dalton raised his cup, "Uh-huh...so?"
"Dalton...people are LIVING there." Veronica exclaimed.
"Ahh...so he froze time over there. Hmm, that's bad."
"What's more bad..." Veronica started.
"Is that he broke the Time Seal over Antarctica." Aira jumped in.
Veronica sighed, turned her chair around and started tapping on her keyboard again.
Dalton asked, "Time Seal?"
Dalton fiddled his fingers and Aira set her cup down.
She said, "A long time ago. Well, a really long time ago. Before time was actually invented, the Time Keepers had a bit of trouble with one Time Keeper. Her name was Ursula. She's Gackt's mother. Ursula, wanted to use her powers to take over the universe."
"That sounds like most bad guys in most stories." Dalton said.
Veronica jumped in, "True."
Aira started again, "Yea...anyway." She took another sip of tea again. "Anyway, Ursula started freezing time over Earth. The other Time Keepers didn't want Ursula to use her powers for the dark side of things. They fought against her. I haven't translated the entire transcript of the ancient ruins in Japan here, but they defeated Ursula. Put her in a deep sleep trance thingy..."
"I suppose Gackt is trying to revive his mother so they, as a family can take over the world?" Dalton asked.
"Dalton. I'm proud of you." Veronica said.
"Why?"
"You're using your brain."
Dalton face went flat and he turned around to face Aira again.
Aira continued, "Exactly. The Time Keepers sacrificed themselves to create a Time Seal of which only allows Time Keepers to use their powers for the greater good. The ruins here in Japan are where they casted the Time Seal. The farther away from the ruins, the weaker the seal gets. He managed to break the seal of Antarctica, who knows where he'll go next."
Dalton questioned, "Hmm...so where is his mother?"
"She was sealed in a meteor, put into a deep sleep and was sent to Saturn's asteroid belt." Veronica answered.
"Pretty drastic." Dalton replied.
"She was powerful." Aira said.
"So we have to prevent Gackt from breaking the time seals, and prevent him to reviving his mother somehow." Dalton said.
"Yes." said Aira. "Thing is, we don't know how he's breaking the seals, and how he's going to awaken his mother. For now, we have to train all the Time Keepers in the world, and get ready for the worst."
Dalton stood up from the table and walked over to Veronica who was still tapping on the keyboard. "You prepping me for another simulating training session?"
Veronica replied, "Nope. Just checking my mail."
