A Tiny Comfort

, ,

Both Mik and I have been feeling a little under the weather lately, so today I decided to make a little something for both of us to cheer us up.
Yes, my penchant for tiny food is still going strong - and so, I dug out the tiny crockery and put a tiny amount of my favourite hot chocolate into each tiny cup...
(the lighter's there for comparison...)

And topped our tiny hot chocolates with tinier marshmallows

WANT! Of The Month

,

We are greedy creatures. We seek pleasure in many materialistic forms - some opt for attire, some prefer media, others beauty products, gadgets, food... You name it, someone gets their kicks from it. Sometimes the type of thing we've been lusting over can change, depending on our mood, our requirements, or... The month.
This is what I've spent most of my drooling time thinking about this month...

September's WANT! -

Is a t-shirt. I tried to find a decent sized image, but alas, there was none. The product page requires flash, but there's a thumbnail image of the t-shirt for Mini users to see, although it's bloody tiny. Anyway, it's
Here. :D

Another Friends Only

Cuisine Of The Month

, ,

Food. A necessity of life. You have to eat to live... And some live to eat. Whatever your personal philosophy on food, you cannot deny the importance it has in our lives.

Whether you a little or a lot, it's good to enjoy what you do eat. A good dish feeds not only our bellies, but our souls.

I've taken it upon myself to detail one particular cuisine that appeals to me, once every month.

Why?

Because food is good.

September's Cuisine:

Kimmie's Coffee-Chocolate Chip Muffins
(Makes 12)

Bitter and sweet, moist and fluffy muffins, you either love them or hate them.
You will need:

1 and a half cups (200g) plain flour

1 and a half teaspoons baking powder

Half teaspoon salt

Half cup (100g) margarine or butter

Quarter packed cup (50g) light muscovado sugar

Quarter cup (60ml) milk

Quarter cup (60ml) water

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

1 heaped tablespoon instant coffee

100g dark chocolate chips

Put the milk and the water into a cup or mug, add the coffee and stir until it has dissolved. Set it aside.

Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl and mix. Set the bowl aside, too, for now.

In another bowl, beat the sugar and the butter/margarine together until light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla and the egg, and beat again until thoroughly combined.

Once you've done that, pour the flour mixture into the butter mixture, add the chocolate chips on top, and pour the coffee mixture all over it.

Gently fold all your ingredients together until they are just combined, and spoon into muffin pans.

Bake at 180 celsius for 12-15 minutes.

Once cooled, you can store in an airtight container or freezer. They're best served warm - a few seconds in the microwave does the trick. If you want something extra special, put a scoop of vanilla ice-cream onto your warm muffin and eat with a spoon.
:D

Movie Review Of The Month

,

I think it's funny that we use the word "movie" these days. Movies were before Talkies, so why don't we use "Talkies"? Anyway, film, movie, talkie, whatever you wanna call it, it's a moving picture with words. We watch, sometimes to learn, but mostly to escape into fiction.
I don't see movies on or near release day. I see them when we make it to the DVD rental place, and I can be bothered to watch. It's a good thing.

September's Movie:
What's it called? Knowing.

Who's in it? Nicolas Cage, Rose Byrne, other people.
What's it about? A time capsule is unearthed from a school, whose students, years ago, had put pictures they'd drawn into it. One drawing is not a drawing at all - just a series of seemingly random numbers scrawled hurriedly by one of the pupils. John Koestler's (Nick Cage's) son recieves the paper with all the numbers on, and John discovers that the numbers turn out not to be random at all, but accurate predictions of events throughout the fifty years passed, and also the future...
What's good about it? The first three-quarters of the film. Suspense, creepiness, mystery and big-budget kaboom mix well to be very entertaining. The plot seems to progress so very well, but...
What's wrong with it? ...the ending sucks. Total cop-out, idiotic, stupid ending. It ruins the entire movie. Had me shouting at the television screen in anger for wasting my interest on a film just to have it end so moronically. I'll put it this way - if they had to go along the same "route of thinking" for the end, I've got one that's better - the thing at the very end should've been used to avert the disaster, for sacrifice. It would have been just a little less idiotic.
So, should I see it? I wouldn't recommend it. I give it 1/5, because the ending ruins the whole thing.

Personal Update: Gran's Out Of Hospital

,

Got a text from her about half an hour ago, letting me know she's home.
I hadn't spoken to her verbally since the day she was admitted. Fortunately Mik had enough credit for me to call, and would you know it, she sounds just like herself again. Only a bit tired.
She's so happy to be back at her flat again, and we're all overjoyed that the problem is being sorted with a simple medication.
We chatted for a little while, she told me how Whisk had forgotten her for a little while, but as we were talking he was pushing his head up against her hands  . She missed her cats very much.
Then Mik's credit ran out and I had enough to quickly call from my phone, and we said a few more words, and rang off so that my credit wouldn't run out and so she could get to her comfortable home she missed so much.
She thanks you all again for being so kind and sending your love.

My mum is okay.

Simply, Yay

, , ,

Just got a text from Gran, she's had the angiogram and they say the problem was one slightly narrow artery. It's not bad enough for a stent, so it can be easily treated with medication. :hat: .
She thanks all of you for your concern and well-wishes. And so do I. Thanks, people.

Word Of The Month

Words are an integral part of our lives. We use them to communicate with others, and do to this, we need to learn.
Expanding one's vocabulary is something I think we should all aim to do, so we may convey our emotions and describe things to others more fluidly.
I have taken it upon myself to teach you. It is your decision to learn, and yours only.
Are you sitting comfortably?
...Do I care if you are?
No.
Anyway, I'll begin.

Okay, so what's the word? Buttnugget.
How do you pronounce it? Buh-t-nuh-get.
What does it mean? Well, it depends who you ask. Originally, it was a term for small clumps of faecal matter that had hardened and stuck to the hair around the anus.
Nowadays, however, it is much more common to use the term, "buttnugget" as a form of insult.
In what context do you use it? I'll give you a few instances:
"Timmy cannot attend school today, as he has a rather painful case of buttnuggets. He will be visiting the doctor to get advice on how best to remove them."
"Amanda won't share her chocolate with Gary. Amanda is being a buttnugget."
"Now listen up, you miserable, worthless buttnuggets! You will scale this wall on pain of death! Do you understand me?"

And one more instance, which my Dad actually yelled to me in the middle of a town centre:
"Darling, when I'm old, you'll visit me in the nursing home and clean my buttnuggets!"

And that, dear readers, is your word of the month.
