Scar

,

I can't remember how old I was when I went for my surgery to have both my tonsils and birthmark removed. The birthmark - it was almost as long, a bit wider than the scar, dark brown, and, no kidding - it grew actual fur. Fur! Soft fur like a friggin bunny! Anyway, I think I was about 9 at the time of the surgery, but I can't say for sure.

The scar that the birthmark removal left is horrible - instead of grafting skin from my leg onto the wound as they said they would (turns out they didn't want to leave me with two scars, they revealed AFTER the surgery without consulting Gran first,) they simply pulled the edges together with dissolvable stitches.

...which dissolved about 2 weeks earlier than they were supposed to. The flesh had barely knitted together and the damn thing popped right open. Thanks a bunch, asshats. 2 months of considerable pain later, I was mortified to see a lump on the left edge, and it deformed the shape of the arm just a little. They offered me a second operation to remove the little lump - being scared thanks to their fuck up, I refused.

Today, it starts from the middle of my inner forearm, a little less than halfway down, and goes diagonally in the direction of my elbow, to end just before the middle of my outer forearm. The skin is thin. The flesh, mottled. It hurts in bad weather, like a war wound, and while playfighting people have accidentally dug their fingers into it, which hurts a lot, but it's cool. Better than rabbit arm.

So, here are the best pictures I could get. I took about thirty, these are the only half-decent shots.

For Clint

Happy Birthday, dude. I'm not gonna write loads of drively mush I know you'll hate. I have, instead, decided to give you the same gift you gave me on my birthday. I hope you like it
 .

Clint

He is wolf stalking in the twilight
The most welcome darkness in blinding light
A friend filled with shadows, I find him kin
This battle he fights I know he shall win...

Silent and hiding so much pain within
Masking and watching... This is him
As he soldiers eternally through infinite night
Teeth bared, growling, he'll triumph the fight...

Bloodied and bare, so tired may he be
Forever a soldier, important to me
This man who eternally does more than he should
This black hearted canine.
This outshining good...

The New Walk Museum II - Fossils Et Cetera

,

I like the dinosaur, stone and fossil exhibit in the New Walk museum - as soon as you step over the threshold, you're greeted by three great big dinosaurs, which is rather a massive and humbling feeling. I remember visiting this particular exhibit a lot as a child - although mainly it was for the semi-precious stones. The images here are not in any particular order - I prefer not to categorise these posts, but mix the displays, as I never view things in order anyway.

^ This species of Sturgeon is, obviously extinct. Its skeleton was around my height in length, give or take. Imagine this with meat on its bones - enough to sustain our beautiful Kitty for months!

^ Unfortunately, the best picture I came out with of Bob was just of the dude's head. There were too many people and not enough room to back up to fit him in.

^ This flourite glows a purple colour under blacklight, but the camera picked it up as blue.

^ This Gypsum is fantastic - this formation is called Desert Rose. I think I'll always be captivated by it. It's beautiful, although not as beautiful as our Rose !

^ I love this guy, he's so perfectly formed, too. I named the little guy Benji. Well, I say, "little"...

^ I don't really need to explain this mammoth tooth, do I? The display tags say it all.

^ As child, I was enthralled with the shiny-shiny Pyrite (commonly known as Fool's Gold). There are two formations here - the larger one is the type I've owned and seen before, the small one on the right is new to me.

^ This is one massive chunk of Quartz - it's bigger than my head!

^ This fossil of a sea-dwelling dinosaur was massive - the majority of its tail is missing, due to a fellow museum-goer totally spoiling the shot. You can see the tiny black and white model suspended above? This is what this giant would've looked like. This is around 3 or 4 times the size of the sturgeon.

^ Benji again. I'm just rather taken with him. He's cute. I like him.

^ I saved this for last, not because it is the best thing, but because it is my favourite stone. Of course - it's purple. Amethyst is popular, but it's so much prettier in it's natural, uncut, unpolished form.

Next - No idea! Could be more from the New Walk, or perhaps somewhere different. We'll see where the mood takes us by the start of next week.

The New Walk Museum I - Ancient Egypt

,

^The New Walk Museum is situated on the New Walk. I love this street, it's wonderful in the Autumn when the leaves are falling.

^ I think it's the trees that are the main contributor to the calm this place gives me. It's a very long street, too.

^ Just to the right of the entrance, there is this little garden. I think it's beautiful.

Anyway, the Egypt exhibit is a total git to capture on film, for two reasons - the spaces are narrow, and the halls are dark save the lights situated in the glass display cases.

^ A selection of jewellery, typical of the age.
^ I find it a little creepy that there is just a mummified hand mounted on one of the walls. I think it has survived well, though.

This was part of a display detailing typical offerings that were left to the goddess Bast - this one is a kitten.

^ And just remember, Tilla, even adult cats can be offered. I'm taking you with me when I go...

^ We both felt sorry for this guy. He's been partially unwrapped, and seemingly tossed about, considering the severe staining all over - it seems as though people were fighting over him for some reason.

^ His head has preserved well - his ear and mouth are clearly visible, so much so that I got creeped out.

^ This is one of the jars that they used to put all of a deceased's organs in. I apologize about the picture quality - best I could do in the conditions. It is a lovely piece of pottery though, no?

^ I think perhaps this was one of my favourites - it is a wood model of a typical Egyptian tavern. I don't know what it is for, but I imagine that perhaps these kinds of things were to the Egyptians that doll houses are to kids today.

Well, that concludes the Egypt section for this museum. I have a few photos for my album, but I wish I had more. My sarcophagus pictures all flared up because of the glass, and the exhibit is unfortunately rather small, which is disappointing. But I hope you found something interesting!

Music Of The Week

In 2001, Drowning Pool screamed it's way onto the radar of the Rock community with it's debut single, Bodies, from the album, Sinner. The next single released from this album was one of the main themes in one of the Wrestlemanias - Tear Away. This is how I first found this band.

It was only a month ago that I was able to recollect enough information to track down the song title. I didn't remember any of the lyrics or the score, just that it was shouty and tuneful. Anyway, I found it, and found a love for the entirety of Sinner. It's my entire playlist lately.

Drowning Pool have so far released three albums, each with a different vocalist - Dave Williams, (pictured third left above) the original vocalist, died on the tourbus in 2002 from heart problems, so for their second album, Desensitized, released in 2004, Jason Jones (pictured second left below) was the lead vocalist.

After this, he left to form a new band. Admittedly, I've only heard one song from that album, and I don't know if I'll pursue it or not. It's growing on me.

Something happened in 2005 that was a dream come true for many.

Ryan McCombs (ex-frontman for SOiL, pictured third left above) was to be fit in place for new vocalist. This seems to be a partnership made in heaven - They released the album Full Circle in 2007, and fans of Drowning Pool, SOiL, or just fans of the genre seem to be beside themselves with their affections for this. I decided to grab a song from this album, and I think it's one of the best songs I've ever heard in my entire life. Honestly.

Their sound has changed rather drastically from album to album, but it always seems to work.

I'm out to get Full Circle today, if I can find it. It's not often I'll hear one song and love it so much I'll HAVE to have the album as soon as possible. The name of the song? Enemy. You can see it on YouTube here:

My eyes are firmly on these guys and I'll never lose them again.

My daily snack

, ,

Life at the moment is just becoming more and more stressful. It's hard to take time to relax, to even find something that relaxes you. I'm pretty high-strung, you know me, drama queen, things get to me and I lose my head.

I've recently discovered that eating junk food just makes my moods worse. Chocolate just don't do it for me, at all. It just makes things worse if I feel bad.

Now, every day, I have to eat a Conference Pear. Why? I love them. I never get bored of them, and at around 8pm I'll grab one outta the fridge, wash it, cut it into quarters and core it before running back upstairs to eat it all to myself in peace. For some reason it's a real cheer-up, and comfort food.

Seeing as we eat our evening meal quite early now (my meds and food taken at the same time make me a zombie) and I've taken to light meals in the evening, I often pair up my pear with a Philadelphia Light snack. Usually I'll just buy a tub of Philadelphia Light With Chives, put a spoonful on a saucer, and get a handful of generic mini breadsticks, but living here you have to buy things in single-use packs so nobody will steal some or do something horrid to it. So these snacks come in really handy for me.

This supper combo is my comfort food, and it makes me feel much better when I'm down.

To know a feline...

, , ,

Name: Suki
Nicknames: Sukes, Poopy, Pooki, Pookes
Age: 8 years old
Gender: female
Build: Slim and sleek
Marital status: In long-term relationship with horrible long-haired tom. Pushes out a litter of kids twice a year.
Likes: Soft cheese spread, raw eggs, tuna, dry cat food, all liquid is irrestistable. Cannot resist a chin scratch, as much as she hates that fact about herself. Other cats.
Dislikes: Most things. Very temperamental, hates all children and most men, and will often attack those she loves for no reason too.
Random fact: Suki hisses at and tries to swipe people she usually likes rather randomly. She will take water, no matter what it's form, from anywhere, so drinks are not to be left unguarded. She's a mentally ill cat, and often spooked by what seems to be nothing.

Name: Mojo Jojo
Nicknames: Mouldy, Mojee, Moej, Stupid Cat, Idiot, Pretty Kitty, Dumb
Age: 8 years old, a few months older than Suki
Gender: Female, spayed.
Build: Fatty fat fat fat
Marital status: Single. Considered androgynous.
Likes: Lots of fuss, most people, processed chicken slices, tuna, being scratched along the earline, cuddles and kisses from the people she trusts, hunting.
Dislikes: All other cats, loud noises, being intelligent at all, normalcy.
Random fact: I stole Mojee from someone's garden. I'd heard the owner was just leaving the mother and children outside without caring for them and it was true. I picked her because she was the only kitten that didn't freak out when I picked her up. She had a real bad hernia as a kitten, and she's incredibly stupid.

Name: Whiskey Poirot Magnum
Nicknames: Whisk, The Boy, The Dude, Son, Monster
Age: Around 16 months
Gender: Male, neutered
Build: Giant in all dimensions
Marital status: Whisk is pretty much forever in half-kitten mindset, so he thinks girls are gross.
Likes: All food, particularly tuna with plenty of brine, cuddles with people who wear jumpers, being held like a baby, being petted, especially rubbed on the stomach and chest, and having his chin and head scratched. Hunting
Dislikes: Pretty much everything he likes, at some point. As he is kitten-brained, he's very ambivalent upon everything but food.
Random fact: Whiskey is Suki's brother. He's also a bit off in the head - he has a mental look in his eye most of the time. He likes to jump on the back of chairs when a person walks into a room, and if you lower your face to talk to him, he bumps his side against your face to rub around you with a little hop.
