Games and People and Food and Things and Stuff

, , ,

Right, I'm sure most of you have heard about Red Dead Redemption from a post Mik made a little while ago. We got it on release day and we love it. It's especially a high mark from me, considering I find Western times very off-putting and pretty much hate anything to do with cowboys and such.
But what can I say? They've designed the game so well. It's fun, interesting, challenging... It's also very miserable, though. Nothing ever ends well sad . So, I load my game when I'm feeling blue and push hookers down stairs, blow myself up with dynamite, shoot people when I lose at poker...
You can lasso and hogtie people in this, and I saw a woman and it reminded me of those old black and white villain movies where they leave a woman tied on a train track lol . Anyway, I tried to do it but she got away. I was feeling a little blue sometime later and so Mik chased down a nun and waited ages for a train to make me laugh...
Nun went splat, and there's a secret achievement for actually doing it lol .
Also, I found a glitch, I push random blackjack players and it teleports me into mid air, out in the wilderness where I fall to my death. Or sometimes it puts me between walls of buildings.
Funny.
It's a decent game.

We've had rather a busy day today - random gas service man came over to do something or other to the boiler. He was here for a good 45 minutes, and then Asda called to ask if it was ok to deliver our groceries 3 hours before they were due bigeyes . Lots of people around then, of course, but you know.
Then finally I get a call from Nokia. I bought a game on Ovi store a couple of weeks ago, and it wouldn't install. They tried getting me to do certain things that can work for such problems, but none of it worked. I had no reply after the last suggestion failed, so I got angry and mailed them again. They phoned and said they'd look into it last Friday, and I got the call back today. Long story short, I was given an £8 Ovi Music Store voucher as reimbursement for a £1.50 game cool .

Gran visited a couple of days ago. We hadn't seen her in a good six weeks or so, so we chatted a lot. 3 hours flew by so quickly, but we enjoyed each other's company a lot. I also managed to go to just outside our house to wave at my favourite aunt yes

My dad is visiting tomorrow. I have decided to roast a chicken. We will have:
Roast chicken
Roast potatoes
Boiled potatoes
Broccoli
Green beans
Peas
Sweetcorn
Stuffing
and
Crispy Yorkshires.
And for dessert, homemade blueberry muffins with vanilla ice-cream... If we can fit them in our bursting stomachs lol .

A Poem. Apparently.New Slippers

Wow, nice rebate!

KittyliciousZaphira Thursday, May 27, 2010 6:41:49 PM

Mik chased down a nun for you?! bigeyes Wow... that must be what they call love! yes

Mad Scientistqlue Thursday, May 27, 2010 6:56:07 PM

Can I drop-in for lunch tomorrow? chef.
So a hog-tied nun on a train track makes you happy? bigeyes.

Martin K™Aqualion Thursday, May 27, 2010 8:10:02 PM

I did the same with Grand Theft Auto. Just steal a bunch of cars, park them in the middle of a crossroad, and climb to a roof, wait for a jam to build up and then do some target practice with the sniper rifle at the rear ends of the cars. Boom, boom. The real fun starts when the police turns up.

KarenNerak Thursday, May 27, 2010 8:24:48 PM

I'm so looking forward to playing Red Dead Redemption! Like you, I normally cannot stand western themed things. I'm a big fan of Rock Star & played Red Dead Revolver, so this one is a definite must for me! yes

I hope you enjoy your Dad's visit! Having family over is always very stressful for me, but I always end up saying, "All of the stress was worth it because I enjoyed the time with them so much." smile

Dark FurieFurie Thursday, May 27, 2010 9:25:15 PM

RDR is the first truly next generation game in the five years of this generation. There's always something happening in the world that you can act upon, always someone to help or take advantage of, and always something new to unlock.

Cleanclean Thursday, May 27, 2010 10:25:24 PM

There's a few videos out there showcasing glitches (or secret features) people have found on RDR ...

The Donkey Lady

Bird People

Earth Gives Birth to a Horse

Cougar Man (Don't watch just before bed ... scary). lol

Rocket Carriage

Flying Horse

Enjoy your Dad's visit! With all that chicken, it sounds like a mini-Christmas! up

Darkogdare Friday, May 28, 2010 4:24:40 AM

It`s nothing wrong to shoot at people when you lose on a poker game... left They should have know better than to let you lose...

And all that food made me hungry.... I haven`t eat roast chicken in ages cry

@Martin: lol I think I would like that game p

KYrenKYren Friday, May 28, 2010 6:03:03 AM

Got £8 as reimbursement? Which game had you bought?
So when are you going to buy n8 from Nokia? 5800 gotten old, hasn't it? bigsmile

Martin K™Aqualion Friday, May 28, 2010 6:54:18 AM

@Darko

GTA is a classic. If you are not much of a gamer, buy yourself an old PS2 console and some old games, like GTA San Andreas (my favorite), the Silent Hill series, Splinter Cell and some car-games like GrandTurismo and start with those. You can get a second hand PS2 and games fairly cheap these days. Then if you get hooked, you get yourself an updated console. No use wasting money on buying the new stuff, if you get bored with gaming.

Love those bird people. Seems like they make good target practice.

Spaggyj Friday, May 28, 2010 7:45:45 AM

Gavin - yeah, it's a little excessive. I bought an album I've been after with it bigsmile .

Kitty - it really is lol more for the fact he waited for ages for a train awww .

Aadil - if you can get here lol . Yeah, random meanieness and violence in these kinda games is amusing at times p .

Martin - we do the same thing in GTA lol . Obviously in RDR there are no police cars, but there are plenty of sheriffs and deputies on horseback.

Karen - that's so weird that you can't stand Western themed stuff. I never met anyone who hates it lol . I love Rockstar too, their games are mega-fun. I think you'll enjoy this one - let me know what you think when you play it bigsmile
I usually stress with family too, but it's less when it's just the one person. I'm a terrible hostess - I'm always concerned my guests are hungry, thirsty or bored the whole visit rolleyes .

Mik - automaton answer much? You love this game.. Enthuse! p .

David - haha, I've seen a couple and Mik told me about others, but Rocket Carriage and
Earth Births a Horse are new to me lol lol .

Thanks - usually when he comes I just make him a bacon sandwich, but since he's staying longer I thought it apt to make a real dinner smile .

Darko - that's the great thing about games. You can overreact to everything bigsmile . Sorry about making you hungry p
.

Kiran -
It was Brain Genius 2, I believe. Wanted to see how it'd work with touch.
My phone is Batman's phone mad . Nah, I don't go for the latest thing. I still love my phone as long as it fulfills my technological needs smile .

*phew* that took FOREVER! lol

FlaRin Friday, May 28, 2010 10:17:38 AM

That was probably the most comprehensive response I've ever seen in a blog post up

Alien Arena is still my favourite game smile

Will do! up

Spaggyj Friday, May 28, 2010 5:37:54 PM

Flarin, you mean my comment above yours? left
I have never played Alien Arena...

Okeydoke Karen smile

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, May 28, 2010 6:36:45 PM

Those glitches are hilarious! lol.
But are they bugs or features? sherlock.

Spaggyj Friday, May 28, 2010 6:43:41 PM

That's what we've been wondering - bugs or easter eggs...

Dark FurieFurie Friday, May 28, 2010 7:25:37 PM

My money's on features. That bird man and the cougar guy have to have had the animations created for them for starters.

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, May 28, 2010 7:53:22 PM

Exactly what I was thinking. sherlock.
Those things need to much code to be mere random glitches. left.

Nah, Kitty's done some bigger p

KittyliciousZaphira Saturday, May 29, 2010 7:03:22 AM

I remember that. My fingers still hurt from it. p

FlaRin Saturday, May 29, 2010 7:27:25 AM

Probably before my time, then... done't remember that... smile <sorry> smile

I'm still impressed, Kimmie up

Dacotah Saturday, May 29, 2010 10:57:52 AM

Kimmie, glad you like the game.
Nice that you got to visit with your Gran.
Have a great visit with your father and your meal sounds great.
smile

Spaggyj Saturday, May 29, 2010 11:04:03 AM

Thanks, thanks, thanks and thanks! smile

Dark FurieFurie Saturday, May 29, 2010 12:14:14 PM

I remember that. My fingers still hurt from it.

I think someone forgot how bad that sounds out of context. devil

Martin K™Aqualion Saturday, May 29, 2010 1:59:39 PM

What really happened: Jack fell in the bathroom due to wet tiles and broke his hand.

What Jack told the guys: 'I took a piss and now I can't move my fingers...'

Stomyr Saturday, May 29, 2010 3:48:06 PM

Seems you have a lot of fun with that game smile (I don't have much time for gaming so i mess around with a card game smile )

Enjoy your dad's visit (and the meal bigsmile )

Dacotah Saturday, May 29, 2010 4:00:08 PM

Yeah.... I forgot... awww ... Don't you dare! mad

Dark FurieFurie Saturday, May 29, 2010 7:48:38 PM

Just you wait until tomorrow, kitten, just you wait. whistle

theoddbod Monday, May 31, 2010 9:44:12 AM

I always prefer the car chases trying to escape in the GTA game rather than the actual mayhem...trying to escape on a Superbike in the original GTA was an extra challenge as it went faster than the screen could scroll p
Bring back Gouranga, I say left
I'll pretend to have no interest in RDR as it's not on PC p Actually hadn't heard of it until Mik's post. Last Western game I played was Desperadoes.

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, May 31, 2010 7:45:45 PM

So what hardware is most recommended for this game? sherlock.

Martin K™Aqualion Monday, May 31, 2010 7:58:17 PM

It's console only for the nest six months or so. PS3 or XBox. More profitable like that. Most Rockstar games come in a PC edition the same year or the year after. This one definitely will. Non-linear games are highly suitable for PC, but it's a question of preference, I guess. I never was much of a PC gamer. I like the console.

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, May 31, 2010 8:17:44 PM

Yeah, but I have Netbook and I use Ubuntu. So gaming is not an option on that. If I spend good cash on a gaming machine, it must be a good gaming machine so I'm asking advice from the experts here. (many gamers here) p.

r♡serose-marie Wednesday, June 2, 2010 5:01:46 PM

Heh! That does sound like an entertaining game!

So... did you manage to have a muffin for dessert? p

Spaggyj Wednesday, June 2, 2010 5:36:02 PM

I did. The men didn't lol

r♡serose-marie Wednesday, June 2, 2010 5:53:53 PM

Because you were smarter than them and saved some space, I'm sure! wink

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 2, 2010 6:02:34 PM

Because the chicken was massive and tasty and I ate most of it. happy

Mad Scientistqlue Wednesday, June 2, 2010 8:11:35 PM

I'd need a full chicken to fill of up to the point where there's no more room for desert. left.

Dark FurieFurie Wednesday, June 2, 2010 11:30:17 PM

I also had roast potatoes, stuffing and yorkies. chef

Mad Scientistqlue Wednesday, June 2, 2010 11:32:14 PM

yes.

MarikeMarike79 Thursday, June 10, 2010 5:08:08 PM

sounds like a really fun game, and the music voucher is a absolute bonus. yes

Spaggyj Thursday, June 10, 2010 7:16:33 PM

yes
