Fact Of The Month

,

They say that we learn something new every day.
But what happens if, one day, you awake, and there's nothing to be learned?
Who will teach you?
Who will show you the way?
In the name of all that is good and decent in this world of sickness and streets paved with goo, just who shall lift you up into a cloud of smoggy green knowledge?! Who will stick you your dose of needed randomosity? WHO?!
Fear not, citizens, for Kimmie shall provide for one whole day, twelve times a year!

September's Fact:

The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube...

And a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

It is very interesting - the fact that it's called 'micro-wave' is the clue to why small flies can live inside it while you're cooking something...(should you happen to see a small fly in your MW)...they're shorter than the wavelength of the radiation that cooks the food, to it deosn't hurt them - they kinda surf the microwaves, and just fit between them..

*gross simplification no doubt (darko??), but afaik that's the way it is...*

Bud McDonnell 1. October 2009, 01:38

They named the first microwave oven the "Radar Range" because of the radar magnetron it used. I'm pretty sure it was gianormahuge.

Aadil 1. October 2009, 02:00

the magnetron hasn't changed much since then. But the high voltage transformer that powers it has changed quite a bit.

Cois 1. October 2009, 08:31

I knew this. awww I demand another fact! :D
