Winter, Part 2

Supposed to snow here overnight and into tomorrow. Last Saturday, it was nearly 80 deg. F.

There's a fairly common saying in Arkansas:

If you don't like the weather, hang around for a few minutes. It'll change.

It's about 24 or 25 degrees here now, with a windchill of about 13. Been that way all day.

This is the South. Ain't supposed to be like this.

lol I know what you mean.
Strange weather all over.

I remember when I lived in South Dakota the weather in the summer changed really fast in one day. bigsmile

Yesterday it was -30 with the wild shield and now today it was 30 some above. bigsmile

Richard Keelingmusickna Friday, February 4, 2011 12:15:30 AM

Definitely strange weather days indeed. I wonder what the summer will be like?? bigeyes

Deb Plattdebplatt Friday, February 4, 2011 4:13:34 AM

Wow! What a swing in temperature (though I would love to sample a bit of that 80F temperature).

Now that you are on the cold side of the swing, do what you can to stay warm and cozy. smile coffee

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 10:54:24 PM

Carol, this weather is just crazy. Woke up with snow all over the place.

Unbelievable.

bigsmile

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 10:55:59 PM

Richard, I don't even want to think about that. We had a hothothot summer last year, and a drought, too.

I'm just looking forward to Spring.

bigsmile

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 10:57:26 PM

Thanks, Deb. I really do not like cold weather. Makes my fingers hurt, and I have a very low pain threshold.

lol

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 10:59:06 PM

Devans, we have days that have 30 degree temp swings! Arkansas weather is just nuts.

Never boring, though.

lol

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 11:00:01 PM

That cloud was/is huge, Darko! It's like a hurricane fully inland. Really strange stuff.

Deb Plattdebplatt Friday, February 4, 2011 11:41:17 PM

We are having another winter weather watch for tomorrow morning. Sounds like a good morning to stay at home.

pssst It's a good thing Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this week. I am so looking forward to an early spring. bigsmile

Stardancer Friday, February 4, 2011 11:42:36 PM

Me, too, Deb. Me, too.

lol

Dacotah Saturday, February 5, 2011 12:22:41 AM

I always think of George Carlin's line -- "If you don't like the weather -- move!"

lol

In any case, anything is better than Summer, IMO.

I don't like summer, either. But it's awkward complaining about it since I'm already complaining about winter... whistle

My aunt said after watching the news that it looked like in SF movie bigeyes

Adele BrandSittingFox Saturday, February 5, 2011 2:02:08 PM

The weather in the US has been making the news over here. Keep warm! coffee smile

New Moon before perigee, there's alot of steam being formed from faults, witness the latest snow storms in the US. The Atlantic Caribbean Newfoundland has done well to get away without a big quake.

Stardancer Saturday, February 5, 2011 11:11:29 PM

I agree with you on that, Edward. I don't like hot and I don't like cold. Spring is good. Very good.

lol

Stardancer Saturday, February 5, 2011 11:17:53 PM

The weather here is not usual, Darko and Adele. Arkansas almost never sees snow like this. It's a different kind of snow, too--sticks together differently, not "wet" like we're used to. Our winter weather usually consists of ice, not snow. This is just really weird. And to see photos of barns in the Northeast covered to the eaves in snow is just unreal.

My family had some home movies of Wyoming in the early '60's with snow events similar to this, when I was just an infant. I've never, ever seen anything at all like this, not that I can remember, anyway.

Steam from faults, 53? Is that it?

Interesting theory. Arkansas has gotten a lot more earthquakes in the last year or so than it ever has, in places that don't usually record quakes.

Hmmm. Could be.

53north Sunday, February 6, 2011 12:15:14 AM

I've links in the earthquake prediction post on /yetibetty , you can watch the faults glowing and the water being driven out of the rocks. 99.95% of all water on Earth is formed in volcanoes and geothermally.., when you get alot in one place you get funny stills or freak breezes - earthquake weather..

Star, Weather is just likely a primary topic around the world. Here I just experience my first winter, but people around me told me that they had never since such amount of snow for the last twenty years on Christmas.http://files.myopera.com/There2ia/smileys/winter01.gif -
Last week was about minus ten degrees Celsius but now it is about ten plus and cold wind. sad

KittyliciousZaphira Sunday, February 6, 2011 3:17:31 PM

There's one thing I like about it being February, and that is that it's the last month of winter! I'm beginning to be tired of freezing my butt off, so I'm very much looking forward to a hopefully warmer March. smile

Stardancer Monday, February 7, 2011 8:34:16 PM

I think you're right about weather being a primary topic around the world, Teresia. This is crazy!

What do you think of your first winter? Did you get to have a snowball fight and build snowpeople? lol

What a great smilie! That's how I feel right now.

Brrrrrrr!

bigsmile

Stardancer Monday, February 7, 2011 8:34:58 PM

I agree with that, Kitty. I am soooo ready for Spring!

yes

Loiscakkleberrylane Tuesday, February 8, 2011 9:44:01 PM

It was llike that in Canada too. We used to say we could have all four seasons in one day.

Stardancer Wednesday, February 9, 2011 12:10:48 AM

lol

It's been like that here before, too, Lois.
