Hope

Why isn't this headlining every internet news service, every cable news network, and every network news service today?

In the last few months, I've lost two good friends to cancer. My cousin is currently fighting--hard--against breast cancer. Others I know are fighting, or have fought, this evil disease. I've seen the grief, sorrow, and pain of those who have lost loved ones to this scourge.

Why isn't this being shouted from the rooftops?

In a world of such awful things--wars, riots, famines, earthquakes, tsunamis, drought, crime, political idiocy, genocide, terrorism--there is hope for so many.

Why is hope not newsworthy anymore?

Sounds very promising, Star. Of course, there need to be some long term studies made, but this evidence was enough that hopefully it'll pull in the grants for further development. My niece Debra was diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago. She's had chemo and is shortly going to have the bone marrow transplant. Hopefully it will be enough to make her cancer free.

I hate cancer as it has devastated my family.

I know, Linda. You were one of the people I was thinking about when I wrote this.

I hope so much that this will lead to more and more cures for everyone.

I hate this disease.

My sister Juanice who died of cancer about 4 years ago battled cancer over 40 years. Her grandson, Jason's, answer to her battle with the disease was to go to college and get a degree in radiation therapy. He just went to work for Texas Oncology in Mesquite, Texas. I'm very proud of him.

Hi Star; Ah, the failings of the media! furious Leukemia is a very slow and devastating disease, for sure.

Stardancer Wednesday, August 10, 2011 10:25:22 PM

I'd be proud of him, too, Linda. He's somebody who's done something.

Hi, David. It is. A relative of my dad's died of this disease long before I was born, before there was much at all that could be done for him.

And, "the failings of the media" are many and varied. Don't even get me started on more than this. I'll be angry for the rest of the week.

I also have a friend - an ex-coworker - battling late stage cancer. I truly believe we would all be better off if the 'news' included much more truly significant stories and far fewer scare stories.

Best hopes & wishes for your cousin, Star.

It seems that the horrible headlines sell more newspapers. awww

I'll send your cousin positive vibes her way, and hope they reach her in the spirit they're sent.

Because it is still hope,3 swallows do not a summer make and we have had to many false dawns in the treatment of killer diseases to "Shout it from the rooftops" until it is totyally proven to work

L2D2 Thursday, August 11, 2011 8:20:13 PM

Actually, Star, I heard the news from Dallas report about that drug today! So, some of the media are trying to be positive. The problem now is that other media may jump on the info and hype it up to be the greatest thing since the polio vaccine and before enough research has been completed. That's as bad as not reporting it at all I think.

Thank you, Kitty.

Thank you for your viewpoint on this, Nigel. I still think it's better to herald the hope.

I have a friend whose doctor discovered a nodule on her thyroid this week, and she's been busy all week planning her funeral! The biopsy results aren't even back yet! She is so sure that it's cancer, and that she's going to die. In her mind, there is no other scenario.

We have to have hope.

Stardancer Thursday, August 11, 2011 11:34:51 PM

That's really good to hear about the Dallas news, Linda.

I wish more hopeful things would be reported.
