The Mafia

There is a segment of people that imposes its decisions on you and demands you to become one they couldn’t. They bring you up, invest in you and fulfill all your desires to prepare you for some sort of a sacrifice, which they may ask for at any stage of life.
Yes, I’m talking about the ‘Parents Mafia’. Over the last couple of years or so I have come to know through experience that most parents in our part of the world do not know a thing about parenting.
They feed us, look after us, give many tiny little sacrifices and sometimes even fight for our rights, and provide for our education. It’s a human nature that when you would do so much for someone, expectations start to build up. Parents may not expect too much off of you at that time when they were being very kind and nice to you but at some point of time in life a situation arises where they may ask for some sort of payback.
In case you won’t be able to deliver, as you were supposed to (because you’ve enjoyed the privileges of having so kind ‘n loving parents), they even begin to make you realize about the efforts they had put in while bringing you up. They would even remind you of their status in religion.
This is where one realizes that all that affection, love and care one got was nothing but a long term investment plan. This works as an eye-opener for that kid who believed at least his/her parents won’t play the ‘give and take’ game with him/her.
There could be a million of reasons why parents react this way but the biggest of them all is ignorance. They may even be educated even then they would react so stubbornly that you start doubting if they were your parents, ever!
Communication gap could be another possible reason for this ‘never accepting your views and oppressing your ability to make your own decisions’ attitude. They become so busy in providing for you that they could not find enough time to talk to you about how you feel and what plans do you have for your own life.
They really need to realize that we are not robots and that unfortunately we were also born with a brain. We may think otherwise, we may have totally different ideas about life and the ways to spend it. So, we should work things out through talks and with mutual understanding.
We must make our parents realize every now and then that they are not Gods. Their decisions for us can go wrong as well. I know people who are actually suffering because of the decisions their parents had taken for them. May God reward those friends for their negligence! I too am one of those idiots! Anyway, I urge everyone to stop falling for all the emotional crap your parents use to convince you and make you do things they want to do.
Make your own decisions! No one is bound to payback to no one except to your God! If you believe in payback, provide them with all those worldly things they had given you...buy them a big house, a Mercedes, appoint a nurse for them, take them for shopping, give them the time if they had given you even if they had not, but never ever should you sacrifice your emotions, passions or love for someone! Do not risk your future! Say no to Parents Mafia!
Cheers![/FONT]
