Ad-aware 2008 - the biggest disappointment in 2 years

, ,

Well – I’ve been testing it for weeks – and all I can say that they really fkd up this software...
Seriously...
While a normal user would expect a new software release to be faster and better – this is totally messed up.
For example what I liked is that when we install the software it automatically updates itself – except the definition database. WTF? This doesn’t make any logical fkn sense – if it updates all components why did they skip the update of its database?
WHY?
Another bullshit is that why does it have to run a service in the background? Eating up to 60Mbytes of ram?
WHY?
For “calling home”?
It does not do shit in the free version so why do they put it? For optimization?
Come on, that’s bullshit – I’d rather have a software which loads 2 seconds later than having a 9999999 th service.
When I looked at the settings I saw something what “shocked” me.
In the pro version you can activate an “Extended anti-virus engine” and also a “Heuristic scan”
WTF?
If I want an anti-virus software Lavasoft’s products would be probably the 99th what I use for this purpose – also keep in mind that having 2 running virus scanners in background is REALLY NOT A GOOD FKN IDEA – it causes slowdowns, makes the computer instable and messes up everything. So I ask : WHY THE FK DID THEY PUT THAT IN?!?!?!?
And its speed….
OMRFG!!!!!!!
Before I installed it I ran a smart and a full scan of the 2007 version – the smart scan completed in 3 min 26 s – the full scan completed in 5 min 11 s.
When I started the smart scan in the 08 version – I was happy – it didn’t messed much with the GUID-s – I was like : ok, I’m gonna drink a coffee and come back – and when I came back I thought I’m dreaming – it still went on, and on and on…….
The smart scan took (prepare for this) 17 minutes 33 seconds – and the complete went for 33 minutes and 12 seconds – OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!
This is a HUGE setback, and I’m really mad at Lavasoft – this software is totally fucked up!
Slow ass, filled with totally useless features, running a huge service for no reason, and it just blows my mind how slow it became!
It doesn’t worth it and I do NOT recommend anybody to buy it. Use the slow-ass free version if you want to switch…

Track of the Day : Faith no more - I'm easyMoved :D

ombolan : Nope , but there are spywares which has similar names - and similar fake GUI-s. Like Ada-ware for one.

This is one of the worst pieces of software I've ever tried. I'm at a loss to explain why Opera and everything else freezes during an unrelated scan of old service pack files, then bursts into life when I abort the scan. This 'smart' scan takes longer than the old 'complete' scan did irked, and the old one never froze my PC. I still can't bring myself to leave it for the hour it apparently needs for a basic scan (on my admittedly aging PC).
Maybe it finds more than the previous versions, I don't know. But I'm not willing to wait to find out.

In fact I don't think - they just could of update only the definitions - I remember the 1.06 which took only a few minutes to complete and didn't install unnececarry crap... Good old days sad

My boyfriend has a d-adware 2008 in his xp laptop computer. When he runs it it takes 2 1/2 hours for it to run. (free version) When he ran the 2007 ad- ware (free) version on his computer it only took about 15-20 minutes. Whats with the new version of it? Thats ridiculious.

thanks

It has a new engine, revamped GUI, few new - but slow features - also keep in mind that laptops have energy-saving settings and often lower the CPU frequency - thus slowing down the machine - that also can slow down scanning. I got my hands on the newest Anniversary edition and it is just weird - but gonna write a review probably next week.
