How to use Hitslink
Thursday, 9. August 2007, 09:43:14
So I’ve decided to do this “tutorial” which will guide the newcomers to get around. There are options which you have to pay for – so I will discuss only the “basic” version.
Always keep in mind – Hitslink is your friend. It may seem too complicate but it is easy as 1 2 3.
After you’ve set your profile you should first click on “Expand Menus” – so you will see what menus are available for you.
“Exclude IP Ranges from Tracking” and “Ignore This Browser” are pointless.
Since if you set an Excluded IP-range your statistics won’t cover reality…
Also ignoring your own Browser is pointless – why would I want to block my browser? Also if somebody does it – for probably no reason - in the second when he/she clears his/her cookies this will be reset to default…
Let’s look at the Traffic section!
First click on “Snapshot” You will see the last 25 visitors with their referrers. If you scroll down you can see your unique visitors and page views. (With their average numbers of course)
Also if somebody “Googled” you, you can see which browser / OS did he/she used.
The “client=firefox” means that the user used Firefox, if it is Opera then the user used Opera – and so on.
If you see nothing it is probably Internet Explorer 7… If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
If you click on Top Pages you will see your most visited pages – Keep in mind that it will always show the “today’s” (The day when you watch it) page views. Also it gives a figure of it. If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
The “Top Pages Trend” is shows the most visited pages in a diagram. If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
The following options are trivial - (Page Views, Visitors, New Visitors, Average Page Views) – since you can see all of them if you click on either “Detailed” or “Detailed (All Periods)”
If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
The second option (“Detailed (All Periods)”) will show a 12 months statistic – with their diagrams - so use “Detailed” instead. If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
“Latest Visitors”, “Repeat Visitors”, “Countries” are trivial.
If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
Maybe Countries can be shocking – (It can hold many surprise.
At the “Referrers” section you can watch where ppl came from.
If you move your mouse to Options (It is on the right side), you can select from different types of diagrams, as well as you can hide either the Chart or the Table.
If you click on “Referring Sites Detail”, it will show you the referrers.
If you click on Browser Share you can see what ppl are using worldwide.
Aww – come on… Use FF or Opera instead…
At “Browsers Trend” you can see the same – but in a diagram.
At “Search Engine Share” and “Search Engines Trend” you can do the same – but it shows you the used search engines worldwide.
And of course Operating System Share and Operating System Trend are the same – but with the used OS-s…
There is another option which is available everywhere. In the same line where your address is located in the right, you can see 4 icons – and an “export” option.
With the first, you can add the other statistic reports to the same page – so you won’t need to click to 4 or more different places.
If you want to remove the added ones you can do it by selecting “Remove from page” at the options menu.
The second is supposed to give you an xml based file – but it gives a plain-text file with everything…
The third option will give you a printable version of the report, and with the last one you can sent the report via e-mail.
The “Export to” option is the best thing in Hitslink – it makes a downloadable report from the page – you can select the following formats : Adobe PDF, Word / Excel for Windows , RTF (Rich Text Format) , Comma separated txt file, Tab delimited text, Word for Macintosh , or WordPerfect.

If you have it you can log in if you click on “My account”, then scroll down and click on “Statistics”.
(If you don’t have you will see only a number there)

I think it was a mistake to disable the Opera banner in my sidebar. I didn't think most visitors used IE. Well. Time to enable it again.
