Unreal Tournament 2004 Server settings and Admin commands

, , , ...

These are only the “BASIC” settings of a server – different types have mostly different options.

Before you try to add bots to a server where you've enabled "track stats" please read my post Here

So let’s see the main settings for a death match – and I’ll also list the basic server commands.

So click on Host, then click on Death Match, then click on Game Rules then thick the box called View Advanced Options.
You’ll see a lot of settings then.
If you set “Bots balance teams” then when you add bots they will join to the group with fewer ppl.
Weapons stay means that the weapons won’t disappear if a player picks them up. Otherwise there is a spawn time.
Goal score – if you don’t know what it is then blow up your PC – LOL.
Delay at End of game is set to 4 – if you don’t want to wait then set it to 0.
Spawn Protection time means that players can be killed for that amount of time right after they are spawned. It is set to 2 – and I think you should leave at it.
Enable player highlighting – it is for noobs – you shouldn’t enable it…
Friendly fire scale – well you shouldn’t bother it – if you set it then your team’s players can hurt / kill each other… - Only experienced gamers should set it.
Allow weapon Throwing, Allow Taunts - you should leave it on defaults.
Weapon shake View – leave it on.
Allow translocator – oh well if you want to use it than turn it on.

Click on Server Rules – if you want other players from the net to join you thick Advertise server.
Allow Admin Pausing – it is useless
World Stats Logging – also Useless – but if you want to increase / decrease your stats set it on. :D
Admin e-mail – if you want to add it add your e-mail there.
Admin name – write your nick name here
Admin Password – set a password – you’ll need it
Game password – useless
Kick Idlers Time – if you want to kick idle player set a minute here
Login Delay – don’t bother it
May Players – set it to the desired number
Max Spectators – if you want to disable it set it to 0
Min Net players – Set it to the desired rate – the game starts when it reaches the number.
Net start Delay – don’t bother it
Server name – set it to what you want

MOTD – Message of the day – when users join your server they will get the message –
Everybody should set at least the rules, the admin name, and the Language there – For example : Welcome to alskfjsd’s server! The admin is yxz. Do not idle, do not camp, and speak in ENGLISH – or something like that. :D

From the rest you should set “players must be ready” and “players balance teams”.
If you want you can select Kick Voting or Map voting – but it is useless. :D

If you set LAN server it will be optimized to LAN playing – so players from the Internet may have lagging problems.

So you’ve set the server – maybe you’ve set the bots as well -and you’ve entered the game.

So let’s see the very basic commands.

First of all open the console and type :

adminlogin <password> - where the password is what you’ve set. If you did it right you will be highlighted in the score board as Admin. About 90% of the commands can be executed ONLY after you logged in as an Admin.

Also when you switch to another map you have to log in again as admin! - I have no idea why does the game forgets it...

After you are in Admin mode all of the following commands will work:

ADD BOTS [number] - Adds the specified number of bots
BEHINDVIEW 1 - Changes to third person view (if you’ve enabled it)
BEHINDVIEW 0 - Changes to first person view
DISCONNECT - Disconnect from current server
EXIT - Quits the game
KILLBOTS - Gets rid of all bots
OPEN [IP address] - Connect to a specific server IP
OPEN [mapname] - Opens specified map
QUIT - Quits the game
RECONNECT - Reconnect to the current server
SWITCHLEVEL [mapname] - Switches to the specified level
SWITCHTEAM - Switch your player\'s team
SUICIDE - Kills yourself
TEAMSAY [text] - Displays your message in team chat
PLAYERSONLY - Freezes \\ pauses the bots
SAY [text] - Displays your message in global chat
SETNAME [playername] - Changes your player name
DEMOREC [demoname] - Records a demo using the demoname you type
STOPDEMO - Stop recording a demo
KICK [playername] - Kicks the specified player from the server
KICKBAN [playername] - Kicks and bans the specified player from the server using their IP address. To unban the player, edit the server.ini

These are the MOST BASIC commands – there are dozen of other ones – but since they are advanced commands (and most of them are for debugging purposes) - ppl who don’t know what they do with it can screw up the server – in extreme case they might crash the game itself – so I won’t list them.

Playing with Unreal Tournament 2004 - again! :D

, , , ...

Good morning / afternoon / evening!

2 days ago I’ve installed Unreal Tournament 2004
The last time when I played with it was about 4 months ago – LOL :D
I played with it every day since it came out – and yesterday when I looked for some “on line” fun – I was freakin’ shocked.
It was hard to remember my UT stats name / password and it took about 10 minutes to remember it – LOL.
Ok – So after I’ve entered and configured everything I looked for a “Mutant” match.
And I was F**** shocked. Knowing how to play and how to make a proper server are 2 very different things – but if you don’t know either – well you should blow up your computer.
First I will write the rules of the “Mutant” game – so everybody will understand my point.

When the game starts the first scoring player became the “Mutant” He/she will get all of the weapons with “infinite” ammo as well as he gets all power ups-except “Booster”. In the same time the last player becomes the “bottom feeder” (Yes, that is what it is called) (In fact players often use more harsh terms for it such as : “Ass licker” “noob” “f***tard” “lamer” and so on)
The “bottom feeder” is the player with the lowest score.
The bottom feeder may kill anyone as long as he reaches 1 score more than the player above him / her.

So if the “bottom feeder” has 14 “points / frags” (call it what you want) while the player above him / her has 20, then he may kill anybody as long as he reaches 21, when the player with 20 will become the “bottom feeder”

ANYBODY ELSE can kill ONLY the “mutant”
ONLY THE MUTANT CAN KILL the “bottom feeder”.

The mutant looses his / her health at a constant rate 1 HP/sec and he can regain it only by killing other players.

The first trick comes here – if the Mutant kills the bottom feeder he/she gets (in most of the cases) 7 points – otherwise he/she gains either 1 or 2 (depending on server rules)

I’m telling you this because the following happened:

The game started I became the mutant – I killed the “feeder” and the game ended. LOL – ok I waited for the next level. But this time I looked at the score limit – and guess what – it was 3(!) LOL. Ok this will be fun. I plugged on my microphone – and told in the local channel that the “admin” should change it to at least 40. Ok – map restarted score increased to 20….
4 players joined 2 minutes later – so there were enough players. I was happy because it seemed that not all of them are “first time players” – because not I was the first one who scored – and because of my name I became the feeder – since if everybody has the same score – which is 0 when the game starts, the bottom feeder will be chosen by the order of the name. OK so let’s kill somebody – and guess what - everybody started to shoot me – and just couldn’t stand this w/o laughing…. LOL…
Idiots… I killed 3 of them and the mutant killed the rest of us … But at least I was no longer the feeder – guess what - the idiots started to shoot each other…
At that point I couldn’t stand it and shouted in the local channel a few NC-17 rated words and informed them to read the rules and kill the mutant…
After it seemed that they started to understand the rules – and from 7 games I won 5. Thank God 3 of us weren’t noob…. (And that’s why I lost 2 of the matches)

I’ve never understood why ppl start to play online BEFORE thy play through single player…. And why don’t they read the fu***n rules…

Anyway it was really funny. After that I was looking for an “Invasion” game. That is my favorite. All human players are on the same team, and that team must work to clear waves of aliens. If a player is killed, they sit out until their team defeats the current wave; all dead players re-spawn for the next wave. If everybody dies the game is over.
It is the best game – since unskilled players die very soon – and they disconnect often after 1 minute. Especially if the monsters are configured to the hardest level…

After that I looked for a “Team Death Match”. And the next shock:

If you don’t know the very basic fu***g commands 3 years after the release of the game you should be ashamed.

There were 3 players and the map was switched to “Tokara Forest”… 3 players??? There?
It would take ages to find ppl from the other team – and I expected that the admin knows at least the very basic server commands – but did he? No he had no f***n idea about those… So I’ve decided to list the very basic settings of a “listening mode” server here – I hope that ppl knows the difference between “Dedicated server” and “Listening server”

I will make another post about it so you won’t need to scroll down a lot – LOL. :D

If you set a “Dedicated server” you cannot join it. That is the main difference.

These are only the “BASIC” settings of a server – different types have mostly different options.

So let’s see the main settings for a death match – and I’ll also list the basic server commands.

The rest of the settings are for ppl who knows what they are doing – LOL :D

So you’ve set the server – maybe you’ve set the bots as well -and you’ve entered the game.
