My Opera Mail

This message appeared in my Messages Inbox today.

Mail is replacing messages

At the end of January, our messaging system will be changed to My Opera Mail.

The good news? You already have My Opera Mail! Just visit your mailbox to start sending and receiving e-mail. Your e-mail address is your My Opera username followed by @myopera.com; SummerAngel@myopera.com.

Going forward, all correspondence with other My Opera members will go through My Opera Mail. Any earlier messages you have in your inbox will go into a read-only archive.

I do NOT want, nor do I need another email account. I do not want to be bothered with having to sign into this email account. I did not ask for it and I won't be using it. So...I respectfully request that NO My Opera Member send me email to the myopera.com account.

Thank you

Merry Grinchmas Dear Ole DadSunny, this explains WHY

So noted. up .

Suntana Wednesday, January 11, 2012 5:15:49 PM

Well, Annette, I'm not sure whether you understood the entire scope of this change. You see ... with this change, PMs are going away. There won't be anymore PMs function.

So, stuff that we'd do via PMs up to now, like sending CSS Code, Images for Blog Designs, links for whatever ... will now HAVE to be sent via this MyOpera Mail method.

IF MyOpera can ever get this E-mail Service working reliably, I actually prefer things this way. Why? Because by having my E-mail Service in the Opera / MyOpera environment, I don't have to be logged in to any of my AOL Screen Names in particular to access my E-mail.

Besides, Annette, you don't actually have to go Sign In.
You just click on Mail there in the Drop Down Menu of the Envelope Icon in the MyOpera Toolbar and BAMM! You're In!

Of course, I hope that since they're now merging PMs & MyOpera E-mails, they incorporate an "E-mail SummerAngel" ... "E-mail _____" whatever MyOpera Member we want to toss a message or Info to. You know, so as to replace the "Message _____" so & so Member.

Suntana Wednesday, January 11, 2012 5:35:07 PM

Awww Crap! Here I am giving MyOpera Mail some positive promotion and I run into the negative aspect of it. Yeah, the reliability factor. I was barely going to mention that the downside IS that in my experience, up to now, the MyOpera Mail Service is slow to load, to bring up vs. the current PMs function. And when I went to confirm that, I could neither access my MyOpera Mail Service nor my PMs. doh I was stuck in some perpetual loading status. THAT is what they definitely have to fix.

As much maligned as AOL is, right now I would feel uneasy having MyOpera Mail as my ONE & ONLY, my MAIN E-mail Service on which to depend. I really love the concept of the convenience that MyOpera Mail would bring to me. I would have Opera Browsing, MyOpera Hanging Out In and E-mail Service in a One Stop environment. But, right now the MyOpera Mail aspect of it does NOT yet instill confidence in me that I can depend on it and start using it as my MAIN E-mail Address.

Suntana Wednesday, January 11, 2012 5:43:39 PM

So yeah, aside of fixing the reliability aspect of MyOpera Mail, I sure hope they decrease the loading time of it because right now the much maligned, alleged lowlife Black Sheep AOL Mail loads much faster. I'll be pissed if I have to go through mini eternities to read the equivalent of what USED to be PMs that used to load much more quickly.

For sure I don't want to resort to replacing my PMs usage with my AOL E-mail Service because I'm NOT even normally logged in to the Screen Name that is associated with my MyOpera account. I'm more often logged in to another one of my Screen Names and that one is NOT as 100% reliable outside of AOL World because it has a SPACE in the E-mail Address.

Suntana Wednesday, January 11, 2012 5:53:54 PM

I HAVE to use my MyOpera Mail Service to E-mail with my older sister, the one in South America because she can't seem to initiate E-mails to me when she tries sending them to my AOL E-mail Addresses. She can only RECEIVE AOL E-mails from me, but trying to SEND me an E-mail to my AOL E-mail Addresses fails.

Well, actually she CAN E-mail me to my AOL E-mail Address provided that she uses the REPLY function to an E-mail that I've already sent her. She just can't send me an E-mail from scratch to my AOL E-mail Addresses.

Yadi Yadi Yada ... I told her back then, "Let me try a Plan B. Let's try my MyOpera E-mail Address." And that solved the problem.

Exactly!!! I don't have the time or patience to be aggravated with it. You can send the stuff you used to pm to me to my regular email. I check that account at least once a day. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Cool.gif -

Suntana Wednesday, January 11, 2012 8:56:45 PM

I sent an E-mail to your regular E-mail to test whether I had your latest Address. It IS ChihuahuaAngel@Tebow.com, right? http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin2.gif - Wait a minute. Oops! Maybe I'm confusing and morphing yours with Chihuahua Kirsten's. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL2.gif -

Dacotah Wednesday, January 11, 2012 9:10:11 PM

I agree with you, I don't care to have pm's sent to this email account I don't want nor need.

Guess no more pm's. Sighs.

L2D2 Thursday, January 12, 2012 5:42:19 AM

I don't have any problem with Opera mail but I haven't used it a a very long time. At one time, I had trouble sending emails from Opera mail. Don't know if that is still true. I'll have to check it out. I don't think it will be too bad, though.

Soon I'll send you an message by email Chuck to see if our opera email will work.

John BallCATMAN42 Thursday, January 12, 2012 1:26:17 PM

I got the same message and I agree with you Annete I wont be replying to emails sent there either.

Hi Carol and John. It appears I'm not alone in my refusal to use opera email. It looks like the opera members who care to correspond with us will have to send emails to our personal email accounts. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/ThumbsUp.gif -

SummerAngel Thursday, January 12, 2012 2:18:43 PM

Linda, you have my personal email address should you need or want to send messages to me. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Good.gif -

You can deal with the hassle of the opera email if you want, but I choose to continue to use the hassle free account I've had for years.

John BallCATMAN42 Thursday, January 12, 2012 2:27:37 PM

I am with you all the way Annete.smilie

Dacotah Thursday, January 12, 2012 4:18:40 PM

Hi Annette, guess so. Better give people my email address.

Happy New Year Annette. smile

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, January 13, 2012 2:30:59 PM

My Opera email address is one of the email address' that I use for some important uses. up . It just means that if anyone want's me to use a different email address for them, they will have to provide me with their other email address. up .
I haven't had any obvious problems with it so far. left .

Suntana Friday, January 13, 2012 3:32:40 PM

One problem / quirk that I have noticed and encountered twice yesterday is that periodically, a click of the Backspace ... BAMM! Will delete a CHUNK of text. bigeyes

So yeah, yesterday I was infuriated twice, bordering on hyperventilating and going ballistic after the second occurrence of it. bomb furious On both occasions I was in the middle of long E-mails to my sister when suddenly a simple click of the Backspace Key POOF! WTF? Suddenly a chunk of text was simply gone. mad

At least it didn't wipe out the entire E-mail.

Then once I had recreated the text that disappeared, something was obviously still glitched because when I would try to select text so as to add Text Attributes like Bold, Font Color, Etc. --- OTHER chunks of text would be selected, NOT the text over which I would click & drag. Weird.

Suntana Friday, January 13, 2012 3:37:53 PM

Or what will suddenly mysteriously happen when I click Backspace is that I'll just up and be taken out of that E-mail in progress and zapped on over to one of the other categories like maybe my Inbox. What the Frigg? Oh, I'll be able to get back to the E-mail by using the Browser Back Arrow or going to the Draft category. But, WHY did I get zapped out of my E-mail in progress to begin with when simply clicking on the Backspace Key? confused .

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, January 13, 2012 7:31:41 PM

Is this in the web-interface or with an email client? confused .
I don't write long emails as a rule anyway. So that might be why I've never had problems? sherlock .
I've moved some things over from my Gmail account simply because my Gmail account receives too much spam and I don't want certain things to get confused between spam and the genuine article. knight .
If I ever have major issues, I can always migrate those things over to my Ymail account or my other email account. (that last one has a terrible user interface though. scared )

Suntana Friday, January 13, 2012 9:49:16 PM

Web Interface / E-mail Client? bigeyes
Depends what that means? lol
I've never been friggin' clear regarding what the blazes an E-mail Client is.

In my case I don't have anything fancy.
I'm simply talking about hovering on the Envelope Icon up in the MyOpera Toolbar. Then click on "Mail." And then I just have at it. I then just dive in into MyOpera Mail. So, whatever that means, that's what I'm doing.

Suntana Friday, January 13, 2012 9:50:57 PM

If I'm missing a step ... something I'm supposed to set up, maybe that would explain my problems.

Then you're using the web interface! up .
The email client is usually a stand-alone application. However, Opera Browser has a built in email client which I don't use! left .
(Click the "Opera" button in the top right corner and then select "Mail and Chat Accounts")
I sometimes have to clear my cookies to get the web interface to work properly. rolleyes . (that kinda sounds like I'm throwing up, doesn't it! p )

L2D2 Saturday, January 14, 2012 1:59:58 AM

I haven't used my Opera web mail in a long time. Don't remember my login info for it.

L2D2 Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:00:56 AM

I like the New Year Header Annette.

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:34:50 AM

Opera Button in the top right corner?
No such animal. I don't know what you're talking about, Aadil.
Did you see that on your Notebook or on your phone?

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:37:21 AM

There's no Log In required, Peppermint.
Just do it like I do and you're in.

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:39:40 AM

We're not talking about that old original Opera Mail, Peppermint.
We're talking about the much newer BETA MyOpera Mail.

Mad Scientistqlue Saturday, January 14, 2012 8:52:22 AM

There is a button next to the tabs that, when clicked, gives a drop down menu with all the different features etc. listed. left .
It shows about a quarter of the Opera 'O' and the word 'Opera'. left .
Just click it. up .

Mad Scientistqlue Saturday, January 14, 2012 8:54:56 AM

dohfaint I meant left. cryo .

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:06:58 PM

Nnnnggg, no ... STILL no such animal, Aadil.
There is no quarter "O" anywhere on my screen.
Maybe it's something that is either Opera version-based or has to be enabled?

The only thing remotely close to what you're talking about is that Opera O and "My Opera" there to the left of my User Name on the My Opera Toolbar. And that gives me my Latest Activities. Are you seeing this quarter "O" on the very same Toolbar as the Tabs?

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 2:09:11 PM

I am only at Opera 11.10 right now.
So that's several versions below the latest.
Maybe it's the latest Opera versions that have that quarter "O" bit.

Mad Scientistqlue Saturday, January 14, 2012 3:59:45 PM

The style has changed but it's always been there in one form or another. sherlock . I think it was a full 'O' at one time. up .

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 4:24:33 PM

I haven't found the portal of which you speak, Aadil, but I did find I CAN find "Mail and Chat Accounts" simply by clicking on Tools up in the MyOpera Toolbar. Of course, it prompted me to set up an account. So, I aborted that fact-finding mission.

Another thing is that Help on the MyOpera Mail Forum seems to be virtual SQUAT. scared You look at all the topics and replies are almost nonexistent. My recent inquiry in there fell through the cracks. I had to solve the problem myself.

Mad Scientistqlue Saturday, January 14, 2012 6:01:49 PM

Did you post the result of you solution so that anyone alre with similar issues might find an answer there? left .
Anyway, yes, you have to provide your email account details and password to an email client so that it can access your email account. On some email accounts, you may also need to setup something manually. (although most things are automated these days)
I, personally, don't use any email client as it's a lot easier to use the web interfaces in most cases. up .
And in Gmail especially, you get more functionality from the web interface. party .

Suntana Saturday, January 14, 2012 11:39:59 PM

Yep, I commented in my 1-person conversation there lol that I solved the problem myself by upgrading from Opera 10.63 to Opera 11.10.

WHAT? You have to give your P ... P ... PASSWORD?!!! bigeyes http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Scared.gif -
That has Gatekeeper written all over it. scared http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Guns.gif -
I think I'll stay right where I am ... with the plain ole vanilla web interface way.

Mad Scientistqlue Sunday, January 15, 2012 4:39:26 AM

The email client system is the original method from back when email accounts didn't have web interfaces. p .

L2D2 Wednesday, January 18, 2012 11:53:20 PM

I'm not talking about regular Opera mail, Chuck. I'm talking about Opera WEB mail, which is an email client like yahoo mail and gmail. You have to have log in with user name and password to log into it, just like any web mail. Opera mail and Opera web mail are not the same thing.

Suntana Thursday, January 19, 2012 3:14:05 AM

So, in THAT case, Peppermint, use the one in which you DON'T have to Farkle around with Logging In. Use the simple one with the Web Interface that I use and you'll be good to go.

You'll HAVE to be good to go by the end of the month when we no longer have PMs. Cuz I don't want to have to be logging in to that certain AOL Screen Name to see that I have E-mails from y'all. I want to be able to just quickly see up'er in the MyOpera Toolbar that I have some MyOpera Mail.

L2D2 Friday, January 20, 2012 9:06:46 PM

What's wrong with using the 501 email address?

Suntana Saturday, January 21, 2012 2:31:56 PM

The thing with the 501 E-mail Address is that as I've mentioned before ... THAT one is NOT the AOL Screen Name to which I am normally logged into. So, in other words, I don't even normally check that 501 E-mail Address on a daily basis or even a weekly basis. Heck, about 2 days ago, I checked my AOL Master Screen Name for the first time in ages and I had an E-mail from June! doh And a couple of other similarly very old ones. None were important though.

Messages to my MyOpera E-mail Address on the other hand, those WOULD be seen on a daily basis. Those are within the Opera environment and I'm on MyOpera everday.

L2D2 Monday, January 23, 2012 6:38:18 AM

Well, hell, Pumpkin, why don't you just start checking your email more often?

Suntana Monday, January 23, 2012 3:25:12 PM

I do check them, but on my other AOL Screen Name.
And besides, you've already been informed of what to do and how to do things so that I won't miss any messages from you. With that Strategic Chuck Briefing, how can you now not know what to do?

See ... bottom line, why would it matter to you whether you send a message to either one of my AOL E-mail Addresses or to my MyOpera E-mail Address? It's still going to be an E-mail Address either way.

Now ... from YOUR end, you're welcome to use one of your regular E-mail Addresses as your base of operation. You can shun your MyOpera E-mail Address like the plague if you want. Just let me know which E-mail Address you want me to use to contact you more efficiently.

Suntana Monday, January 23, 2012 3:36:38 PM

This week I WILL be logged into my 501 E-mail Address because I will be expecting an E-mail ... from Walmart. bigeyes From Walmart? yikes Yeah, from Walmart. Today I'll be ordering a Modem from the Walmart website to finally fire up my newer computer, that Dell that my niece had given me. The Modem will be shipped to a Walmart store to avoid shipping charges. The store will inform me via E-mail when my Modem is at the store.

The Restore CD was already ordered yesterday from elsewhere.
Cuz right now the Hard Drive is of course BLANK.

Yadi Yadi Yada ... I'm hoping that sometime between this Friday and next Tuesday or Wednesday, both the Restore CD and the Modem will be here and I'll be able to debut that newer, faster, more powerful computer with oodles of Hard Drive space to spare. headbang

My Art Gallery will be moved to a much bigger building. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Cool2.gif -

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, January 27, 2012 5:21:45 AM

Do they still sell dial-up modems at Walmart? bigeyes .

Suntana Friday, January 27, 2012 2:37:17 PM

Well, not at the actual brick & mortar Walmarts, Aadil.
I didn't luck out so as to be able to actually just walk into a Walmart store and meander over to the Electronics department and purchase a Dial Up Modem. That's why unfortunately I had to resort to Walmart's website.

There at the Walmart website there ARE still various 56K Dial Up Modems available. I was tempted to go with one of several USB Dial Up Modems. That would be much easier ... just plug it in and BAMM! No messing around with opening up the computer. But, I just kept being leery. I could envision a less stable Internet Connection if I went that USB Modem route. Or I could also envision a slower connection if that newer computer (Like my current computer) does NOT happen to have HIGH Speed USB Ports.

Yeah, my current HP Pavilion doesn't have High Speed USB Ports so, every time I connect a Flash Drive to it, I am reminded with a message that that Flash Drive could operate faster if I had High Speed USB Ports.

It's almost assured that the newer Dell computer WILL have High Speed USB Ports, but I just didn't want to take the chance that it wouldn't.

Suntana Friday, January 27, 2012 2:40:43 PM

Yesterday I received an E-mail from Walmart confirming that my Modem has shipped. Still though, that didn't expedite the initial arrival date I had been given of February 6th.

However, IF the Restore CD was to get here today or Monday, I might not be able to stand the waiting. I might just up and take out the Modem from my Backup computer, my Gateway and slap it into the Dell and fire it up.

SummerAngel Friday, January 27, 2012 3:12:55 PM

I can just imagine the mess I'd have if I opened up my computer and tried to take out something...I'm sure I'd be on my way to the repair shop within the hour or on the phone ordering another computer. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin.gif -
