On the Way to the Valentine Opera

Figaro! sing Figaro Figaro Fiiiiigaro!
Yeah Right! Did y'all actually think I got all dressed up in traditional going to the Opera attire, you know, a Thor-like helmet with horns and stuff and then headed out to attend an Opera? scared Don't be ridiculous. Of course I did no such thing.

I just thought I'd use that title so as to chronicle a particular adventure in which I've been engaged up to my neck recently. You know ... on the way to Valentine's Day, on my way to MyOpera. As some of y'all who follow my Blog are aware, my Dad & I periodically take on projects for family members. The latest project, which we are just about finishing, made me laugh when I first heard about it. Why? Some of y'all may remember that sometime last year, one of my nieces and her husband moved out from where they were living in my older brother & sister-in-law's house. My niece & her husband bought and moved into their own house.

My older brother & sister-in-law were sooo excited to regain their house all to themselves that they wanted to get rid of everything that wasn't theirs, anything that didn't belong there. So, on different occasions, my Dad & I were hired to disassemble and transport a Swimming Pool, a Trampoline and a Swings / Playhouse set to my niece's house. My Dad & I had from the get go dreaded the possibility of someday in the future being the ones to have to reassemble that Swings / Playhouse set at my niece's house. This, given that without instructions, it would be a Mission Impossible to reassemble that pile of wood and seemingly a million pieces of hardware into ... well, into something that resembled anything other than a pile of wood and hardware mess. At the time that my Dad & I had been disassembling the Swings / Playhouse, we had pretty much gone, "Wooooooo! We pity whoever has to put this MESS back together again … and without instructions."

Well, once the MESS was at my niece's house, she did on a couple of occasions drop some very overt hints of her wanting my Dad & I to reassemble the Swings / Playhouse. But, being scared Shitless o to take on the project, my Dad & I kept finding strategic ways to keep putting off the project.

As it happened, I recently dropped by my niece's house to use her High Speed Internet to download some Apps. While there, I decided to take a look at the pile of wood MESS to see if by now it looked any less intimidating. Nope. I was wrong. It still looked ready to kick anyone's Ass who dared try to reassemble it. scared

The next day, out of the blue, my sister-in-law called me and said that now my older brother wanted to hire my Dad & I to transport the Swings / Playhouse BACK to their house and reassemble it there. That's right. Right back where it used to be. Right back at the very spot where they had no longer wanted to see so much as any atom-sized evidence that it used to exist there. It's that my older brother and sister-in-law decided that now when my niece's little boy and little girl go visit, they have nothing with which to play. So, knowing that my older brother and sister-in-law do always pay us very well, my Dad & I decided, "Nnnnggg, O --- Kay! FINE! We'll do it." With some definite trepidation and definitely NOT 100% confident that we could put that Sucker … I mean, that Swings / Playhouse back together, we took on the challenge.

So, we transported the pile of wood MESS from my niece's house back to its original home, my older brother's backyard. While we could figure out where some parts went, not surprisingly we quickly got stumped. Luckily my sister-in-law informed me that my niece was gonna be dropping by with some pictures of what the Swings / Playhouse used to look like. They weren't the most ideal pictures, but nevertheless, with them and my niece's more solid recollection of how the Swings / Playhouse used to look like, we started making headway.

Sometimes we had mini debates there between all three of us … my niece, my Dad & I as to how something went together. But, my niece's recollection was pretty solid and the most reliable. She turned out to be very helpful. And my Dad & I appreciated her help very much. We're NOT the type of guys to have the attitude that that was Assembly / Construction work and therefore MEN's territory. norris My niece pretty much turned out to be correct whenever she informed us something was WRONG, backwards or whatever.

While my Dad & I would have probably been able to put that Swings / Playhouse together eventually, it would have taken us longer AND it would NOT have looked the way it was supposed to. It would have had a different LOOK. You know … with certain parts backwards and in the wrong place. Like I remember one day when I kept telling my Dad, "I don't like this Rope Ladder. It is dangerous. It is a hazard. SEE? I'm an adult and I'm finding it unsafe to climb. Kids can easily fall back." Well, as it turned out, when my niece dropped by later, she immediately noticed and pointed out, "Whoa! These boards aren't supposed to be here in front. I don't recall them being here like this." My Dad & I tried to explain it away, "Ohhh, they HAVE to be there that way to make the frame sturdy." My niece countered, "But, the kids would have tripped all the time if those boards had been there before." My Dad & I were calmly adamant, "Well, that's the only way they can go." So, my niece searched through the pictures on her phone and finally goes, "Ahhh HAH! THERE! SEE? Those 2 boards should be in the back … NOT in the front." I immediately confirmed that she was absolutely correct. And I immediately noticed that that new observation of how those boards went would fix the Rope Ladder problem.

Yadi Yadi Yada … my niece got us back on track on several occasions. Little does my niece know that at one point, my Dad & I actually SAWED OFF yikes a little piece of board which was sticking out about half an inch. We couldn't figure out why the board didn't want to cooperate. So, Fugg It! We decided, "Saw it off and the problem will be solved. No more board sticking out." My Dad & I also applied a coat of Weatherproofing and a coat of Clear Coat on the Swings / Playhouse. It now looks awesome. It's NOT 100% finished yet. We still have to go back there one more time to screw on the 2 coverings on the roof and on the front.

But, anyway, it's hilarious that we used to pity whoever was gonna be the Suckers who got stuck putting that Swings / Playhouse MESS back together … and WE wound up being said Suckers doh And it's hilarious that it ended up being reassembled right back where it started, in its original home.

Oh yeah … I guess it IS my birthday today.
So, any Butter and / or Art is welcome!

Did you notice your huge influence on me with this Valentine's Day Blog Design, Peppermint? Yeah, that HUGE Peppermint-style Header. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin.gif - I think I might have even gone overboard and out-Pepperminted you. bigeyes This one is 440px tall. yikes

Okay, so it wasn't really by design. I didn't set out to pile on the pixels. I might shovel pile other stuff cow around on occasion, http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL.gif - but NOT pixels. I immediately liked the particular Wallpaper, but I also immediately knew I was going to have to venture into uncharted territory for Chuck when it came to Header Height if I was going to capture the right amount of pertinent Babe content. Sometimes a Blog Designer's gotta do what he's gotta do.

Suntana Tuesday, February 14, 2012 8:37:54 PM

However, Peppermint, as clear and almost Height record-setting as this Valentine's Day Header is, it is actually VERY Bytes / File Size friendly. It is only 98.8 KBytes. It's one of the smallest File Sizes any of my Header creations have ever had ... well, in my modern creations anyway.

Chuck, that is a large-size header; however, I have had several at 450px height. This one grabs attention, and that's what I believe a header should do. Grab attention right away. So, now that you've stuck your toe in the cold, unknown jumbo header heights, I imagine it will happen again. Once you discover how much more complete an image you can get, the better options you'll have for cropping headers out of wallpapers.

Do you know who the chica is in your header?

L2D2 Wednesday, February 15, 2012 5:59:08 AM

That isn't Lucy Liu is it?

SummerAngel Wednesday, February 15, 2012 2:16:12 PM

Suntana Wednesday, February 15, 2012 9:36:34 PM

doh I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you HAVE beat 440px before. If someone was going to, it WOULD be you, Peppermint. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL.gif -

No, Peppermint, I don't expect this Valentine's Day foray into Peppermint style Texas-sized Header territory to ignite a Jumbo Header frenzy in my future designs. The only reason I got away with a clear, high quality resolution HUGE Header with a small File Size was because the color scheme of this Valentine's Header just happened to be simplistic and very uniform. It's mostly RED and Flesh Tones. And intricate variations details were at a minimum.

On the other hand, when one uses an image with many different colors and / or tons of intricate variations details, a HUGE Header cannot be achieved while maintaining a small File Size. And I definitely don't like watering down the resolution of an image. One could keep lowering the JPEG Save Quality until an acceptable File Size was achieved, but at some point, the image quality starts to suffer a noticeable deterioration.

Suntana Wednesday, February 15, 2012 9:54:49 PM

No, Peppermint, I'm virtually certain that the Cutie Asian Chica in my Valentine's Day Header is NOT Lucy Liu. While there is a resemblance there, Lucy Liu has more of a freckles complexion, albeit also a Cutie. I'll never forget a scorching kissing scene Lucy Liu had on the TV Show Alley McBeal. Wooooooo! That girl can KISS! http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yahoo.gif - http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Drool.gif - I think she was right at that threshold where if it had been any hotter, it would have been Porn. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin.gif - So now anytime I see Lucy Liu or hear her mentioned, I am transported back in time to that scene. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Clap.gif -
I think while watching that scene, I was living vicariously through that character she was kissing. headbang I'll bet the Actor messed up several times on purpose while filming that scene so that they'd have to do several takes of having Lucy Liu all over him. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin2.gif - Lucky guy.

Anyway, the girl in my Valentine's Day Header is just some girl I found on some site. It wasn't in any Celebrity Babes category.

Ahhh! Valentine's Month, huh?

In about an hour and 45 minutes, I'll be heading out to a birthday party. PIZZA TIME! http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yahoo.gif - http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Drool.gif - I'm gonna have to hit the ground running on this one. Or should I say ... hit the ground eating on this one. Cuz it'll be 2 hours and 45 minutes long ... from 12:00 Noon to 2:45PM ... NOT to 3:00PM, but 2:45PM sharp! scared They obviously want 15 minutes to get everything and everyone out of the way for the next party.

Well, those Pizzas better start hitting the tables quickly. None of this bringing out 1 pizza for each area and we all scarf up all the piece in 30 seconds and be forced back to chatting after ONE friggin' piece of Pizza. And then sometime later, the process repeats. irked

The last birthday party started out like that. It was a slow start. Just when I was getting ready to go ballistic and start wreaking havoc, the Pizzas FINALLY came at an acceptable pace. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/BigGrin2.gif -

Is this your pizza birthday party you are heading out to? party

Suntana Sunday, February 19, 2012 3:29:15 PM

No, this wasn't my party, Annette.
It was a 1st birthday party for the daughter of one of my step nieces.

First of all, I had Déjà vu. Bing Maps led me astray a little bit. I had searched the directions to the place earlier in the week. As usual, I was thinking, "I have the Internet directions. I am ready to go!" I knew the exact Exit on which I was supposed to get off. And it had been mentioned that if I reached so & so street, I had gone too far. Very quickly after the Exit, I got to the you've gone too far street and no sign of the Pizza place. WTF? I made a U-Turn around the Freeway and tried again. It was NOT looking promising again. I pulled into a little shopping center to see if it was hidden in there. Nope.

I finally pulled into a gas station and asked where that Pizza place was. I was informed that it was just a little bit further UP. Yes, as in beyond the street where Bing Maps told me specifically that if I reached that street, I had gone too far.

I don't know. I'm theorizing that maybe what the deal is for Bing Maps' slight screwup is that maybe that Pizza place moved. Maybe it used to be where Bing Maps says it is. Maybe the GPS database hasn't been updated. I'll check with one of the other Map Services to see if that one also gives me the correctness-challenged directions.

Hey, Chuck! Sorry I'm late, hope your celebration was happy! cheers

SummerAngel Sunday, February 19, 2012 6:34:42 PM

You really need GPS. Before I got it, I used to use http://www.mapquest.com/ Try that site and see if it gives you the correct directions.

I really hate this site because it shows pictures of private residences, but it also shows pictures of businesses. http://maps.google.com/maps

One or both of these sites should give you the correct directions to the Pizza place. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Good.gif -

Mi muy querido, Sunny, espero que hayas pasado un feliz día del amor y la amistad celebrando tu cumpleaños. Por eso, seleccioné este poema, especialmente para tí yes

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d39/elcentineladelamor/AMOR/ImagenesdeAmorconmovimientoIIbywwwJoseLuisAvilaHerreraBLOGSPOTcom-4.gif -

esa utilidad sea suficiente

muere alguno, puedas llorar

Grrrrr! Fugg! I lost my comment after a lockup. bomb
Now I have to recreate it. furious
Let's see. What the Farkle had I said before?

Continuation of Saturday's adventure:
I did then subsequently check with Yahoo Maps and it too gave me the same directions as Bing Maps.

So, yesterday I was telling a nephew and a niece about my mysterious experience with less than accurate Internet directions. My nephew immediately sorta kidding, but totally serious went, "Oh, it's because you didn't use Google Maps. Use Google Maps and you'll get the right directions." My niece being his sister agreed with him. I immediately deemed their opinion BS. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yes.gif - I knew that if both Bing Maps and Yahoo Maps gave me the same directions, the odds were that Google Maps would give me the same directions as well.

Today I checked the address out with Google Maps and I WAS RIGHT! Google Maps gave me the same instructions as Bing Maps and Yahoo Maps.http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yahoo.gif - My nephew and niece's advise was nothing, but a load of I can't wait to inform them. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL2.gif -

This means a GPS device would have also no doubt failed to the party correctly.

Suntana Monday, February 20, 2012 4:46:06 PM

So, again, my theory is that either that Pizza place moved and the GPS database hasn't been updated or the address on the invitation was written incorrectly. I never bothered to verify once I got there whether the address on the invitation matched the place's actual address.

Suntana Monday, February 20, 2012 5:03:39 PM

Anyway, the party began and just as my hunch had indicated would likely be the case, the Pizza availability did have a slow start. bomb The 1st Pizza they brought out ... I swear, it must have been a reheated Pizza from the day before. It sucked! It had the appearance of a Pizza, but tasted like slightly tomato-y cardboard. I only got 2 pieces from that sorry excuse for a Pizza.

The Salad was very good though. It had regular Lettuce and Ham & Pepperoni or something or other. This in contrast to the previous 2 parties, which had had this weird, I guess High Society Lettuce, Arugula maybe. That one had huge chunks, which was like trying to eat Palms from a freakin' Palm Tree. scared

However, from the 2nd Pizza they brought out and on, they tasted much better. So, those were no doubt freshly-made, unlike the 1st one. Scumballs. irked

And from my recollection of what you and I have talked about in the past, I can imagine that in Venezuela, where there appears to be more Machismo, that problem exists even MORE of men thinking a woman can't be right, can't have a good idea regarding a problem or a situation.

As I mention in the Post, my niece corrected us several time and helped us get back on the right track. My Dad & I weren't going to be all egotistical and dumb enough to go, "We don't need any pictures, opinions, ideas or advice. We're men. We'll figure it out." Nah. We knew it was going to be a tough project and welcomed any pictures, ideas, opinions, recollections that my niece or my sister-in-law had as to how the Swings / Playhouse looked before.

Without their input, we WOULD have eventually assemble "a version" of that Swings / Playhouse ... NOT the correct version, but a version. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL2.gif -

I tell you what though. My older brother on the other hand, yeah, the one for whom we assembled the Swings / Playhouse, now HE IS the type who would definitely NOT have wanted ideas or opinions from my niece if he had been doing the assembly. If he would have been doing the assembly by himself, he would have resorted to trying to figure it out all by himself ... or throw it away rather than ask his daughter if she recalled how some sections of it went. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL.gif -

O please... that sounds good to my ear. Lol!

I feel yet it's a little hard for some men don't see us -WOMEN, as just that: I have a good friend, an Italian friend quite old, saying how pretty a woman looks wearing an apron. He is really nice but somewhat bigoted.

Why don't you show us an image from that apparatus, huh? smile
