Beyond the Clouds

. . . and trying to get to the other side

Out with the old, in with the new

How hard it is to throw away some of my favorite things. Even long after they've been designated as useless, no good, broken, they are still part of my image, my known and loved identity. When the clothes I inhabit are so thread bare because I literally spend all my time in them - how can I part from them?

All the years of familiarity, of making good friends with objects and feeling close to stuff, it is time to throw them away. Oh - how easy it is to say that. And how freeing to write it down. It's time to get rid of the old and make room for the new. But oh - how impossible it is to do and sad indeed - to say goodbye to a worn and tired old friend, and yet how refreshing and liberating to meet a new one. Maybe, I'll put on something different and maybe these clothes will last one more year if I just patch the holes and darn the socks.

Why not both? Afterall, both are good and both are me and both are other.

How true, I find it hard to wear new stuff, I am always more comfortable in old clothes. Clothes and shoes are like horses, they need breaking in!
