Beyond the Clouds

. . . and trying to get to the other side

teeth

There it is the luscious fruit, still hanging on the tree. Slowly ripening, growing bigger and heavier everyday. I longed for it, dreamt of it, and finally sunk my poor teeth into the fleshy red apple. My jaws tightened, my skin shrunk, my teeth started to hurt as I tried to remove the fruit from my mouth. I wriggled it this way and that, I tugged and yanked, and the more I clamped down on it the more painful it was. My teeth started cracking, like brittle glass that split down one plane until finally my teeth broke.

I pulled the apple out, teeth splintered and sticking out of this perfect white flesh. The tree stood there looking at me and I stared back mouth bared and tongue hanging out. The tree grinned and I grimaced.

Frustrated and in agony, I beat the tree and apples fell hitting me on the head. I stopped and still more apples came falling down on top of me almost knocking me out. I look to the sky. I blink at the sun and then I drop my gaze down to the earth. Why me? and then why not me? The tree isn't mine and I took the fruit. My stomach wanted to eat it and my teeth went to bite it and in the end it got me.
