the long awaited poem

is this my fate, my destiny?
that you should go and I should stay
to wake the night and tire the day
always late to feel the heart
didn't I care? didn't I cart
many thoughts, many feelings
like the average fart
but time flew by and robbed 44 years
of your life, your love, my listening ears -
I miss your stories, miss your dreams
I’ll miss your presence but not my screams
at your wake
I felt so fake
trying to reach you and face you and
say that I'm here
to collect your tears
so bitter, so sweet
like your life, your death
your joys and your fears
so sweet, so bitter
it stings and it flows
if I just wasn't late
If I just wasn't slow
I'd have caught you before
you rode to the shore
but you were always too quick
and two steps ahead
moving on to depart
as I arrived with my heart
beating too slowly and heavy as lead
and now that you're gone
I want a chance
to show you how fond
and deep was our bond
so I write this poem
knowing all this
and feeling, yes feeling,
the eternal absense of your loving kiss
