Random Ramblings

of a mother of five!

So the tulip festival has ended....the tulips bloom on.

, , ,

When Mugs and I ventured out for an afternoon stroll the sun was in the sky, the birds were singing, and it was neither too hot, nor too cold. Perfect weather to spend some time outdoors.
Needless to say, our luck didn't last. These images were taken under overcast conditions, but I'm still pretty happy with the way they turned out.
I really enjoyed my first trip ever to see Ottawa's beautiful tulips!

The nicest part was the relatively few people there today, as the festival has officially ended.
We were able to get most of our images without strange people and their various body parts gracing our photos!
Enjoy!

Those are beautiful pictures! I'm not sure that I can pick a favorite one out of them, although the third picture just draws my eyes a bit more than the others.

Tabmartel 19. May 2009, 22:35

Thank you!

I picked these ones out of the 300 shots I took as my favorites.
I can't decide either! LOL

dragon_harrower 19. May 2009, 22:55

You're welcome. :D

 I love digital cameras for that reason. You can take so many shots and pick the shots you like the most out of them. :D

Tabmartel 19. May 2009, 22:58

 So do I!p: Life is so much simpler, and no $@CK&*% film to deal with!!
I don't miss having to fork out money every week or so, to develop film, and hate the way the pictures turned out anyways! Photoshop is a blessing!

These images haven't been photoshopped as of yet.

noah counte 20. May 2009, 01:48

Lovely. I'm glad the tulips aren't beholden to festival dates lol

dragon_harrower 20. May 2009, 01:49

I don't miss that in the least either.

They don't look like they need it either.

Tabmartel 20. May 2009, 10:30

Thanks Matt...

They could use some photoshopping, but it won't be done for a while. Between the two of us, we shot over 500 images of freakin' tulips!!!

We had a lot of fun together yesterday.

Flying Red Fox Blog 20. May 2009, 14:42

noah counte 21. May 2009, 23:57

I still say you (Karen) need to head up to the Skagit Valley for the festival. It's awe-inspiring.

Nerak 22. May 2009, 10:13

OH! That's right! I had totally spaced it out! I'm going to search it out right now for the dates. Thank you so much for the reminder!

noah counte 22. May 2009, 11:59

 It's in your back yard, sorta. It would be a pity to miss it.

Nerak 24. May 2009, 06:27

I WISH! And a pity, indeed. Hopefully I give birth before it's over! p:

Olgita 24. May 2009, 10:58

I love tulips so much!!!! But I love when they are in the ground... not in a vase at home!

Are those BLACK tulips in the last picture?

Nerak 26. May 2009, 23:47

I agree...Tulips in the ground are MUCH more appealing than in a pot...although I wouldn't turn them down in a pot, either! That's what Lonnie got me for Valentine's Day. He knows I hate roses. :o:

qlue 29. May 2009, 15:52

An interesting bit of trivia for you, most of the tulips sold on the streets of Amsterdam are grown in South Africa. p:.

Tabmartel 2. June 2009, 10:20

Africa! Wow so cool!

Thanks everyone!

Olga- the tulips are such a deep purple they seem black when you look at them.

derWandersmann 7. June 2009, 16:20

You will find, my dear Tab, that overcast days, with diffuse, filtered light, produce the richest colours, The bright sunlight tends to wash them out, and the contrasty conditions mask them, to say nothing of shiny surfaces producing specular highlights, which have no colour at all.

When you get pictures like these into you image-editing software, a very careful touch on the contrast control will give them all the "snap" you want.

Tabmartel 13. June 2009, 22:13

 Thanks for the tip.

Quinnuendo 4. July 2009, 20:06

Coming a bit late, but still: nice pictures, glad you had fun
