Jake's gory hand and my naked dancing.

, , ,

It may already be after midnight, I'm not entirely certain so I'm writing this post thinking it's Friday when in fact it may be Saturday.

It was a PD day for the kids which means no school today. Me in my infinate wisdom, decided the boys should sweep/organise the garage..*OK so it's really a shed, but garage sounds fancier*

Anyways, Jacob comes into the house crying shortly after with a gory sliced hand. (The muscle directly below the thumb) So I called Steph at work, informing him of Jake's need for stiches, and asking him to drive Jake to the Hawkesburry emergency. I do wish I still had a drivers licence sometimes.

I went out to my six car shed  and checked around for sharp stuff and noticed a steel trim around the base of the walls. I guess that's what Jake sliced himself on, poor kid.

He ended up being stiched and getting a tetanus shot.

I babied him like a good mother should and I think that might have pissed him off a little. 12 is a very macho, I don't wanna be babied age for boys.. but he was crying which provokes instinctual mass (s)mothering.

Oh ya there is some good news- I am bursting with pride. Amanda and Branden got their report cards and Branden's average was 85!!! I think I might have danced in the street (NAKED?) after seeing that, and I may have shown his report card to several random strangers.

As for Amanda, I passed her English course, *lol* musn't let her read this post or she'll kill me for saying that.*

She also did quite well, but she could have done better. Still very proud of her for her 70% average and in celebration of their great marks we'll be going for Chinese on Sunday.

I am so tired right now, time to catch some Zzzz's.

See ya all tommorow (or later today)

I'm freaking ancient!

Branden recently approached me with a puzzled expression on his face and asked-
Mom what's a walkman?

Jacob recently came running into my room and let me know that Matthew was playing with my big black CD's!!

I asked Amanda to join me to watch a movie. She in turn, asked me what year it was made. I said 1986.
She looked at me, and said "No thanks mom, I don't like black and white movies!!"

What it takes to be a mother of five

, ,

People always ask me how I manage with five children. I'm going to let you all in on a well kept secret:

I don't manage. I have more grey hairs than a grey wig factory, but every parent stresses over their children. Every day stuff like: Is he going to be warm enough? Did I remember to throw an extra pair of mitts in his bag?

But what takes to be a mom of five is strength, and lots of laundry detergent.

We have good days, when everything goes smoothly and I haven't had to douce any of them with peroxide.

And we have bad days, when nerves are stretched and tempers are flared. I take a time out for myself, and maybe take a ten minute bath. With only one washroom ten minutes is a luxury..there is always someone pounding on the door yelling "HURRY UP MOM!" I can practically see the yeller jumping up and down in distress and holding their crotch. Not sure why we do that, jumping doesn't distract thee bladder from it's intent to empty.

To have five children one must love to cook, and be tollerant of dirty dishes. 3 meals a day plus two snacks multiplied by six people can obviously only eaqual dishpan hands. I don't have the luxury of a dishwasher, in fact I wouldn't know how to use one if I did have said luxury.

Sure having five children is a good deal of work, but moments that I cherish make all that work seem like very little effort. Simple things like watching a movie together really do make my life a great place to be.

Back to school

, , ,

I was up at 6 am this morning to enjoy a steaming cup of coffee and some quiet time before waking the kids at 7 am.

The first day back to school is always hecktic and this year proved to be no different.

Everyone was up and dressed and ready to go by 8:15 and my older ones left, headed down the road to catch their bus at 8:30.

I told the younger three to go ahead outside and I'd be along momentarily. I slipped on my sneakers and headed out after them.

When I got out the door my kids were gone. I realised that they had gotten on the wrong bus, headed for the wrong school!

After heading to the school to find out where exactly my children were, I headed back home and waited for a phone call to find out what school the kids eventually got to.

Turns out they wound up in another community about 15 km away. Thankfully their dad went and got them and reurned them to to their own school.

That is our little adventure for today...let's hope we get it right tommorow!
