Choral Endeavors

, , , , ,

My life revolves around music and my singing, or whatever else I may happen to be studying musically. This year I am singing with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus, my church's Music Ministry, and I am studying Music Theory in an adult Theory class at Eastman Community Music School. I'm diligently working on my Theory and music, for the purpose of accomplishing some of the technical skills that I have been lacking in.

We are presently the rehearsing music of Anton Bruckner: Mass No. 2 in E Minor, Os justi, and Ecce Sacerdos. I've been diligently attempting to perfect Os justi, a simply beautiful peace. It's words are true:

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks what is just.
The law of God is in his heart,
and his feet do not falter. Allelujah!

Here is a link to an online recording of "Os justi." The link is difficult to see. Double click on the words "Bruckner setting of Os Justi." http://www.musicasacra.com/2007/06/22/os-justi/

The performance is to be performed with the famed Eastman Wind Ensemble, Mark Scatterday, conductor. The first performance will be December 1, 2007 at 8:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester, NY, and the second performance December 7, 2007 at 8:00 PM in the Eastman Theater, Rochester, NY.

During the summer I sing with Finger Lakes Choral Festival. 2007 was my 4th summer with FLCF. This previous season we twice performed Orff's "Carmina Burana" as well as the Faustian opera choruses "Mephistopheles" by Boito and "The Damnation of Faust" by Hector Berlioz. Below is a picture of the 2007 Finger Lakes Choral Festival (as soon as the server is no longer busy).
