If you are new to content blocking in Opera, see tutorial.

Easy way to block ads is to disabling the IFrames & JavaScript globally and enabling them for required sites in site preferences.

To block particular JavaScript or IFrame ad in a page, open info panel, note path under Scripts or Inline frames and add it to content blocker. Tools > Preferences... > Advanced > Content > Blocked Content... > Add...

To block flash use Flashblock for Opera 9.

From Opera 9.50, you can enable/disable content blocker globally using Block Ads button or per site basis using site preferences. F12 > Edit Site Preferences... > Content > Enable content blocking

  • Large urlfilter.ini file will increase startup time of Opera.
  • You will get blank page when you try to visit a site blocked by content blocker.

you can right click the ad and select blocked content and add the url of the image to the list
here is one of the ads
http://m1.2mdn.net/1384245/0309_auto_discounts_coupon_728x90.swf
http://content.yieldmanager.edgesuite.net/atoms/*

The ads on blogtv seem to be flash and shcokwave based

according to the info panel on Opera they have a few ad scripts

Also some video site will not work unless the ads are shown

idk, I did what I mentioned before...which caused alot of problems, pasted the adblock list back in the urlfilter file and it worked. I'm wondering if it was just taking Opera awhile to load and block all the links on the adblock list, this attempt did work at removing all the ads(at least the ones on Blogtv..

Also I had tried blocking the individual ads, but it seemed the ads were being replaced with different ad groups on each reload, which was annoying.

mp3geek 11. July 2009, 22:07

easylist won't ever work with Opera, has adblock plus specific features that aren't in opera. Does using my list help Anonymous?

cHello2k7 12. July 2009, 19:42

URG...Idk mp3geek, I woke up today and the ads are back...or atleast some of them. I don't get it the easylist works some times but not all(seems to have diminished effects after each refresh), the other list provided don't remove the "interactive video ads" or the pop up video ads.

and now I'm using opera so I'm not Anon

Try Ad Blocking FiltersetP CSS.

wouldnt it be better to just add the INI info then the filter in your list, and tell people to right click and save as to the profile directory?

thats what I do I right click on the list on www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/ and save it to my opera profile directory, then the file saves itself as a .ini file...+ works the same on ccs files ect....

I tried with the urlfilter.ini file on opera mobile 9 (installed it on a HTC 8925) but it is not filtering the pages. Does anyone knows why?

Check whether prioritize excludelist=1 in urlfilter.ini

Yes it is, this is the entire code on the urlfilter.ini. I want to block all sites except for one.

[prefs]

Tamil 8. October 2009, 14:03

Set prioritize excludelist=0 and add websites you want to access under [include]

eldarwin 8. October 2009, 15:31

I just did but still being able to access blocked websites. Perhaps is where I placed the urlfilter.ini file. I placed it on:

\Program Files\Opera Mobile
\Program Files\Opera Mobile\profile

Is there another directory where it should go? (BTW, thank you so much for all your help)

Tamil 8. October 2009, 15:37

May be you have to copy to \windows\opera\ directory.

eldarwin 8. October 2009, 21:00

hhmmm... strange I didn't have that directory. So I removed Opera and installed it again and still no \windows\opera\ .

So I created it and placed the urlfilter.ini there but still no luck.

I also installed the widgets, should I remove it? Perhaps this is the problem

Tamil 8. October 2009, 23:51

I have no idea as I don't use Opera Mobile. :frown:

what is the difference between those filters? fanboy & pgl.yoyo.org?

which is faster? or better?

pgl.yoyo.org is larger, probably slower too. Ofcourse mine is better, but I am bias
