Me again. I reread some other posts and realized I was trying to alter a mouse-keyboard COMBINATION, which you said we can't do. Then I realized my change was successful. I just need to do a carriage return instead of a mouse click. Thanks for this site.

Me again. My "successful" results did not last long. I tried deleting Copy of Opera Standard and testing Enter ctrl shift and Enter ctrl, and they didn't work with the carriage return. I'm confused about whether Enter here means carriage return or left mouse click. (I was in Advanced - Browser Widget.)

Another idea I had was to make a New shortcut. But when I press New nothing happens -- it doesn't look like your screen shot. My hypothesis there is that Opera thinks I am trying to edit Opera Standard rather than Copy of Opera Standard.

Another idea I had was to use edit and make the left-hand column say F2 for Open link in background page. Then for star Go to page, I gave in a value of F2 ctrl in the left-hand column. When I tested it, F2 did nothing, and ctrl F2 effected the Go to function.

Help! I just need some simpler way to open links in background. The right mouse button on my cordless keyboard is inconveniently designed, so the hotclick popup menu is not the solution. Thanks.

Both. Enter will work when you highlight link using keys Q or A.

Mouse middle click on link is the simple way.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I don't have a middle button because I'm using a touch pad.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing Opera. Now I can't even edit the shortcuts! The edit button just isn't there.

Hmm. Previous post disappeared. Here goes again.

I can edit the shortcuts. I had chosen keyboard by mistake instead of shortcuts.

But I still can't make a new shortcut, and my changes to Open Link in ... still don't work.

Hi, me again. I don't understand your last reply. Can you spell it out for me, please? Thanks.

I don't know why you are not able to create new shortcut.

Tamil 15. July 2009, 17:30

Is it possible to simply change keys in a shortcut. For instance "2" is set to move to next tab. I would much rather "3" do the same function, but when I simply change this value when editing preferences, it does not work.

In an earlier post, you said
"you can use SHIFT+Left Mouse Click to open links in new tab."
How exactly would you phrase this? For example, Shift+Enter gets phrased as Enter Shift. Also, which section should I put this in -- Browser Widget? Thank you.

I was wondering if there is a way to set-up my left mouse click+Ctrl to open a link in a background tab. It was a feature i'm used to from firefox. It's handy when im reading forums and i want to open a bunch of threads then go and read them one-by-one after. Thanks!

Same thing as 'middle click' on the mouse, but im on a laptop with no middle button so a ctril+click would be ideal, thanks!

I'm still interested in this approach.

However, I'm delighted to report that I found a javascript solution to the ctrl-click open-in-background-tab problem:

hi, I am having the same problem as some others have posted.

I am using Opera USB 10.
I can make and edit mouse gestures without a hitch. The same cannot be said for keyboard shortcuts.
I can make a new keyboard shortcut or edit an old one but when done they will not work. The changes are confirmed in the standard_keyboard(1).ini file, but they will not work.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks.

It would be great if right/left mouse click shortcut could be disabled. Because its a real flash game ruiner.

Hi to all
Is it possible to open and close the document with a shortcut key like ctrl+b open and close Bookmark panel(and also with other shortcut keys like ctrl+f, ctrl+h etc)
I am using Opera 10.10 and I can open the bookmark panel using ctrl+b but I cannot close it using the same shortcut key (in Mozilla this is possible).

Is there a chance to do this ?
