How to edit menu setup in Opera?
Thursday, 27. October 2005, 09:39:17
Default menu setup file should not edited as Opera will overwrite it during update. Create a copy of default menu setup as shown below and edit it.
(If you don't have Copy of Opera Standard then )
Open menu\standard_menu (1).ini from profile and edit.
After editing, reload menu by activating your modified setup in

Duplicate Opera Standard menu setup

Activate "Copy of Opera Standard" menu setup

Looking at this in the hope that it might help solve the problem that I'm unable to access the context/ drop-down menus when click on any of the headings in the menu bar (eg. "FILE";"EDIT"; etc)
I've tried creating duplicates & looking at the ini files
C:\Documents and Settings\chris\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile\opera6.ini
and
C:\Documents and Settings\chris\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile\menu\standard_menu (1).ini
The second file is quite lengthy. I was hoping there might be something glaringly obvious there, but I cannot see/interpret it.
Prior to this I tried unistalling Opera, then clearing out folders I could find for it, & then got rid of the only registry entry I could find- then installed the latest version. That did not solve it.
I've also tried disabling various extensions in Firefox in case they might somehow be affecting Opera. No luck with that.
I seems I need some expert advice :) if going to solve this.
Any ideas greatly welcomed !

How can I do this on Linux. Everything seems to assume I am using Windows. Windows is slow and outdated. Linux, while it may not be popular, is far more advanced. Please post something about doing this on Linux!

I just unchecked opera:config#Show%20Menu but after restart menu is still visible :( yet this checkbox is UNchecked. I dont have a clue why.
Using 9.64, 10 and 10 turbo installed in 3 separate directories. None of them apply this tweak.
Any ideas ?

I can confirm that. I duplicated it and it popped up in the dialog box as "Copy of Opera Standard". There was nothing in my profile directory, but I found the "standard_menu.ini" (not the duplicate) in what looks to me like a new folder: C:\Program Files\Opera\ui
I did a little search and found the duplicate named "standard_menu(1) in folder: C:\Documents and Settings\myname\Application Data\Opera\Opera\menu
But I couldn't figure out how to get any customised stuff to work - a lot of the menu sections look very different to how I remember them. I changed the name in the [info] section, and it showed up of in the prefs...advanced...toolbars dialog box -
but how to get it to work is a little beyond me right nowFixed - see edit comment belowMaybe it's disabled in the Beta? (I'm actually on the Unite version - so there's a lot of Unite stuff in that there menu file too.)
I wonder if Opera have some new information coming on how to tweak ini files?
Edit: I got it to work - I forgot to go back in and select it. But I seem to be getting another problem (not a big one). I posted it on the sticky post on the customisation forum, and also mentioned about the new file locations.

Hi I read your answer in the forums on how to make Opera go to the homepage automatically after opening a new window and it seems that it does not work. I did as you said to edit "Under [Browser File Common Menu] section replace
Item, MI_IDM_NEW = New browser window
with
Item, MI_IDM_NEW = New browser window & Go to homepage," and it does not work. Your help is very appreciated, thank you.

Thanks a lot for your quick response Tamil. It does open up to my homepage if I do File -> New Window, but is there a way to make it so that when I click the shortcut button on my quick launch bar, it opens up my homepage on the new window? I have the additional option of "Opens windows instead of tabs" on and it still opens up as a blank page instead of my homepage. Once again, thanks a bunch.
