Also, is there any way you could extend this to searches done on the toolbar through g 'opera' or the google search bar?

Thanks in advance!

"Go to URL" in a background page jumps to another tab, than the current one, I think it has something do with "cycle in tab order"?

You have to add it in ini file in /home/USERNAME/.opera/toolbar

Enable Open new tab next to active in CTRL+F12 Advanced Tabs

I had this in my menu and I removed it after I find out that "Go to URL" works just fine if you hold the Shift key down.

Schneemann Friday, April 27, 2007 7:25:26 PM

Hmm, this looks like it overwrites the clipboard. What about some javascript instead?

You can also uncheck Reuse current tab in Preferences > Advanced > Tabs to always open a new tab for searches, context menu items, bookmarks etc..

Item, "Google" = Hotclick search, 200

How to do here?

Item, "Go, new"= Go to page, "javascript: var url=(document.getSelection()) if (url.indexOf('http://%27)==-1) var url=('http://%27+url); window.open(url)();void(0)",,,"forward"

for background page also: http://my.opera.com/bpm/blog/pagelaunch-from-a-text-url

QuHno Wednesday, May 19, 2010 5:50:31 AM

One option missing in 10.50+: Open a link in a new private tab.

This should help:
Item, Open in New Private Tab = Copy link, -2, "urlinfo" & New private page & Paste and go

with Icon:
Item, Open in New Private Tab = Copy link, -2, "urlinfo",,"New private page menu" & New private page & Paste and go

If you prefer windows you can replace tab by window and you can use Copy instead of Copy link if you want to copy urls from texts.

Is there a way to make e-mail links always open in background tabs when left clicking on them?
Thanks

Tamil Sunday, October 31, 2010 12:33:08 PM

tisazalay Monday, November 1, 2010 3:37:40 PM

Well, Mr.Ruzanov kindly pointed that extensions don't work in Opera Mail (at least for now), what I was thinking is to change the default behavior of left mouse click on opera mail (not long press), the simple click, to always open links in background tabs... Sort of a gesture or something like that, but with a simple click.
Thanks.

Tamil Monday, November 1, 2010 4:25:25 PM

AFAIK, not possible.

The workaround of exchanging the ability to reuse the current tab for the ability to search in a new tab is not very useful sad

The "Go to Web Address in New/Background Tab" makes searching without that limitation possible, but has it's limitations as it doesn't work for hyperlinks' text.

Edit menu setup and replace contents of [Link Selection Popup Menu] section with the following.
Include, Hotclick Popup Menu
--------------------1
Item, M_BOOKM_ITEM_POPUP_MENU_OPEN = Open link, -2, "urlinfo"
Item, MI_IDM_MENU_PAGEBAR_LINK_IN_NEW_PAGE = Open link in new page, -2, "urlinfo"
Item, MI_IDM_MENU_PAGEBAR_LINK_IN_BG_PAGE = Open link in background page, -2, "urlinfo"
--------------------3
GhostItem, M_INSPECT_ELEMENT = Inspect element
