This doesn't work!
I have changed the settings as described and saved them but Google always appears as Google .com and not Google.co.uk

You have to change search.ini in your profile folder and not the one in Opera installation folder. You have to restart Opera.

How do I open the dictionary or searches in the hotclick menu or the toolbar in another BACKGROUND page. Currently, it's opening in a new page thx to some of your tweaks.

Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to make it go to background page on simply left clicking?

Add the following in your menu file under [Hotclick Popup Menu]

Item, Google search in new page = Copy & New Page & Go to page, "http://www.google.com/search?q=%c&num=%i&sourceid=opera" & Switch to previous page

The version 9 method does not work. I'd tried it myself and was trying to work out what to do which led me to this article. Anyone got any ideas how I can get this to work on google.co.uk

cheers
