How to change Speed Dial thumbnail images in Opera?
Tuesday, 30. December 2008, 14:40:25
If you don't like the default Speed Dial thumbnail images, you can change them easily.
- Convert the image you want to use as thumbnail to PNG format using Microsoft Paint (Open image, File → Save As and select 'Save as type' as PNG) or any image editor. There is no limitation on size of image but 256x192 pixels or less is recommended.
- Go to profile\thumbnails directory. For Opera 10 in Windows, go to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera!\thumbnails directory.
- Find and replace already existing thumbnail image with new image with original name.
- Set 'Read only' attribute (Right click on image → Properties) to prevent update of thumbnail image when you use reload.
- Restart Opera to see new thumbnail image in Speed Dial.

i had already messed up and changed the name in opera 10 and i don't think there's a way to change it back. maybe there is but i don't know how.
in apple, in order to do what you're saying, i believe i have to go to the file, control-click and go to "More information".
i then went in there and pasted the new picture onto the little icon in the top left of the "more info" page. then i went into "sharing and permissions" and changed the access to "read only".
does that sound right?

Speed Dial thumbnails never save for me between sessions. Any idea what setting I need to change? I'm using Opera Portable.

"Check whether you have images in profile\thumbnails directory. Do you use delete private data & what is your Opera version."
There are images in the thumbnail directory while using Opera. Version is 9.63. Not sure about "delete private data". Where do I find that?

Is it possible to manually set the title for the pages to in some way? Some of the page titles are a bit bloated... E.g. The Guardian reads on my speed dial "Latest news, sport, business, co..."... I'd rahter just have "The Guardian".

In opera 10 beta there is not a thumbnails directory.
Is it possible?

When I click your "here" link it gives me
C:\Documents and Settings\Kulchick\Application Data\Opera\Opera 10 Preview\
but my "Thumbnails" folder is actually located in
C:\Documents and Settings\Kulchick\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera 10 Preview\
I believe it is because I install Opera 10 over Opera 9 and settings are saved from Opera 9.
P.S. It would be awesome if I will be able to drag&drop picture (like site logo) directly to thumbnail in some of next builds.
