So... About the process of deleting data from Opera Link servers... It really resets or simply deletes the things. Because I'm imagining it...
Suppose I want to reset the Opera Link's data to the default search engines, if I make the explained procedure it'll be marked I deleted my search engines... If I re-enable the sync it'll simply delete all the default search engines (no deal!). If I add manually the default search engines they won't receive updates like the suggestion update that was brought by Opera and users hadn't get it because they were not with the defaults (even a simple action of changing the default search engine makes them different and create a search.ini). The thing is: there's no way to get back the defaults after you delete them once and use Opera Link. :/

No the only practical use is to sysnc between two different computers!
That is, until they bring this feature to Operamini!

Opera Next (though it's dangerous and could make you lost your data).

But installing two copies of the same binary on one system is not possible.

There are other ways to do this I'm sure!
And you can add another user account to your computer, then that user will have their own unique settings anyway!
Of course, a second user is technically and practically a second (virtual) computer anyway!

And, unless you want both instances running simultaneously, you can put different settings in your home folder and use a bit of jiggery-pokery to select which config path you want to use at launch! (you'd need the jiggery-pokery anyway, even with twp separate binaries as the path to your home folder won't change
Of course, I don't know squat about how the file-tree is organised in Windows, but I'd imagine that there must be a default path for binaries or there would be no way to prevent random binary files from masquerading as system/application binaries!

That would explain the confusion!
Although I honestly don't think that, even on Windows, it would make sense to install two binaries of the same application on one machine. And I would not install a testing (nightly build?) version on a production machine! I'd rather set-up a second system for testing purposes. (a virtual machine perhaps?)

Yes, this is true. My point is that even when I've had two or three OS' installed, I've only really used one. And I generally use one version of Opera, usually the latest 'stable' release.
In a similar vein, one could install every known browser out there on one's system. But why bother when you know that most of those browsers will never be used anyway!
Once I have a tool that works, I don't need another. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I will explain it with an example.
For example, you have removed default Google search engine some time ago. In fact, Google search was not erased from configuration file, it only marked as "deleted". And this mark will be sent to Opera Link servers. Now you want to recover this Google search. You opens the search.ini and edits parameter "deleted" from "1" to "0" (this edit will not blocked by new Search Protect System). But you can not recover it because in next synchronization this parameter will be replaced to "1" again.
So it's not really clean data erasing from Link servers…
(sorry for bad English)
