NN writes: Hi, can you please help me with Bookmarks problem - when I'm opening more (but not all) links from Opera Bookmarks (I'm using custom Bookmarks list dropdown button) it's annoying, because after click on every bookmark link Opera close Bookmarks and I must open Bookmarks again, open link, open Bookmarks again, open link and etc. I'd like to have behaviour when I can click on Bookmark links (one after another) and these will be opened in background and Bookmarks will be still on top focused, until I'll click somewhere on webpage.

Tamil Friday, May 2, 2008 8:45:28 AM

AFAIK, it is not possible.

To NN:
Wouldn't it be an idea to use your panel for this? I have mine hidden on the left, you can open it by hovering, it shows the bookmarks and will stay open if you like and keeps your place. It will also open each link in a new tab. Just a thought. smile

a. aesthetik writes: Being able to show my bookmark folders on my personal bar was very important for me in replicating my Firefox experience, BUT The inability to drag tabs/sites to the whatever folder on the personal bar that I decide is a huge annoyance. Having the "panel" constantly open on the side is not something I want to do nor do I want to have to open it every time to find the appropriate folder I want to save a wesbite I am viewing. I've read around and it appears that this is something that can't be changed or helped which is sad because its just another way that FF is superior. +-+ another frustration is the INABILITY to right click a bookmark within a folder on the personal bar in order to open a background tab.

mistaknly Thursday, August 28, 2008 9:27:35 PM

Is there a way to do away with Opera's method for handling the personal bar? It is really confusing to have to look all over the place instead of in "ONE" folder as in FF. I always create a personal bar anyway but it eventually gets screwed up and I have to clean up after myself.

Is this a feature change, a forum thread, or is it something that I could do?

Thanks

Create a new folder in bookmarks and place all personal bar items inside it.

Martin writes: I like the function in Firefox\Chrome, that when you have pressed a bookmark-folder, you can just hower over the rest of the folders, and they will list all the bookmarks in that folder. With opera you have to click on every bookmark-folder to show the contents. Is there any way to enable this in opera?

If you have a bunch of folders as drop-down menus in your personal bar, it doesn't help to use the image-only option on the bar.
In this case, replacing the names of the bookmarks which contain identifiable images to the pipe "|" character saves space, while providing the opportunity to differentiate each folder by a single letter/character.

As for making the contents of personal bar drop-down menus open in background tabs, I have no idea how to make that work.
I have a forum post here if anyone would like to suggest a solution:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=807202

This is among the greatest usability issues I've encountered since attempting to migrate back after >5 years on Firefox.

Similarly to the bookmark background tab issue is that of the 'Search' highlighted text' function which fails to preserve the current tab, which is also a UX fail to me.

How to use Quote function:

  1. Select some text
  2. Click on the Quote link
