How to add more Speed Dials in Opera?

Opera has 9 Speed Dials by default but you can add more in Opera 9.50.

  1. Note the path to speeddial.ini file.
  2. Close Opera.
  3. Open speeddial.ini file in any text editor.
  4. Add the following lines and adjust number of rows & columns to your need. If you use widescreen monitor, increase number of columns. Use trial & error method and adjust rows & columns so that Speed Dials will fit on your screen properly.
    [Size]
    Rows=3
    Columns=4
  5. Start Opera.

Keyboard shortcuts CTRL+1 to CTRL+9 will open Speed Dials 1-9 respectively. To open extra Speed Dials using keyboard shortcut, create new keyboard shortcuts in Application section with action Go to speed dial, X where X is Speed Dial number.

Set Speed Dial Search Type to 0 to remove Speed Dial search box.

Useful opera:config (Opera Preferences Editor) entries

Opera's preferences window Tools → Preferences... provides access to preferences the are most commonly adjusted. There are many more options that are available for you to adjust, however, they are hidden and can be found in the built-in preferences editor.

To access the hidden preferences editor, type opera:config into the address bar and press enter. To learn more about each opera:config entry, click the help link at top right side in the preferences editor.

opera:config#UserPrefs|BrowserJavaScriptWhether to download and use the browser.js file. Enable by setting to 1, Opera will then download the file and set to 2.
0 = Never download or use
2 = Use and check for updates weekly
1 = browser.js signature invalid. On next check for update, a new browser.js will be downloaded and the value set to 2.

It is not possible to change Opera's default system tray icon.

Enter required items in Title.
%t for page title,
%s for build number, &
%v for version number

How to disable check for new version of Opera?

By default, Opera checks for update every week and notifies you when there is an update.

If you want to disable check for new version, set Check For New Opera to 0.

For Opera version 8

Note the path to Opera directory by clicking this. Close Opera, go to Opera directory and open opera6.ini and change value of Check For New Opera to 0 under [User Prefs].

Opera inline search or find in page search without popup box

Press keyboard shortcut . (dot) or / and then type search term to search in text.
Press keyboard shortcut , (comma) and then type search term to search in links.
Press keyboard shortcut, F3 to find next.
Press keyboard shortcut, SHIFT+F3 to find previous.

Enable Use Integrated Search to use "Find in page" field instead of dialog for "Find in page" when you press keyboard shortcut, CTRL+F.
