How to keep your search history private if you use Google search & Gmail?

, , , ,

When you use google.com search and Gmail, your searches can be associated with your gmail account because when you use Gmail, cookies will be stored for google.com and mail.google.com. To keep your search history private, use local Google (example: google.co.in) as your search engine & block cookies for it.

If one wanted to be even more secure and private, one might want to use the secure version of this service: https://ssl.scroogle.org/
Or, the URL to create a new search directly:
https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbwssl.cgi?Gw=%s

Another cookie-free alternative but doesn't use Google is the meta-search engine startpage.com = ixquick.com. It allows SSL and various customizations. The settings page can then generate a custom URL that incorporates the selected settings without the need for any cookie whatsoever. The results are presented as the usual links but there's also a "Proxy" link which allows to use a proxy to access the respective result, for an additional level of privacy/ecurity.
