Open page with preferred page zoom in Opera

, , , , ,

The font size of Tamil newspaper, Dinamalar is too small. For comfortable reading I have to zoom page to 150% every time. It is annoying to change page zoom every time as there is no setting for it in site preferences but you can load page with preferred page zoom easily.

Dinamalar.com with default page zoom
Dinamalar.com with default page zoom (100%)

  1. Open site in a new window and change page zoom to required level.
  2. Save active window as a new session. O Menu > Tabs and Windows > Sessions > Save This Session... > Change session name and enable 'Only save active window' or File > Sessions > Save This Session... > Change session name and enable 'Only save active window'
  3. Add saved session to a Speed Dial slot.
  4. (Optional) Change Speed Dial thumbnail image.

Similarly, you can open page with fit to width enabled or with no images.

there is no setting for it in site preferences

People were asking for such a feature long time ago… With no effect. :(

This workaround here is interesting, but most of the sites I read I open from RSS feed. :/

You can use style sheet.

To be honest, I don't know how. In CSS subject I've managed to change font size and block some content. Perhaps in the future… smile

Wow, Tamil! Very cool, very creative workaround to not having this in Opera's Site Prefs. wink

(Hopefully, Opera devs get around to adding this into the base code.)

Thanks, that really helped me!, is there a way to set the default zoom for reading mails? When I read one in M2 it's always 100%, would like it to be 120%. Thanks again.

How do you open M2?

tisazalay Monday, October 18, 2010 6:12:21 PM

I open M2 by right clicking on the Opera icon in the tray and selecting read mail, (I also created a shortcut to the same and a custom button for it also), but I usually use the tray way, then it loads automatically the unread messages and display them, but they appear with 100% zoom, I need to press + or go to the O menu ->page ->zoom to resize the messages)

I would like to have 120% zoom as default for mails (I do that for webpages)... Thanks

If you don't know how to edit menu setup see this. Under [Tray Popup Menu] change the following line
Feature Mail, Item, M_INDEX_ITEM_POPUP_MENU_READ = Read mail
to
Feature Mail, Item, M_INDEX_ITEM_POPUP_MENU_READ = Read mail & Zoom to, 120

WOW, that's amazing, I did customize the three locations with your tip, the "& Zoom to 120" made it! (menu, toolbar and keyboard), the menu and keyboard where straight through, for the toolbar I used the custom button maker with the parameters you hinted and It worked marvelously. I hope the Opera guys pay you big money! on the meanwhile, God Bless You! Thanks again.

Not possible.

ConstantineUAConstantine Saturday, October 23, 2010 2:05:40 PM

Correct is not
CTRL+F12 > Advanced > Webpages > Fit to width
but
CTRL+F12 > Webpages > Fit to width
smile

Tamil Saturday, October 23, 2010 2:09:37 PM

Sorry, I forget to remove it.

I found this on:

www.webmasterkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/opera/9545/Page-Zoom-in-Opera-10-5

You can safely adjust this setting in opera:config instead. I'm just so
used to hacking INI files from the days before opera:config that it's what
I automatically think of.

Here is a link to the setting:

opera:config#UserPrefs|Scale

You can also change using preferences (CTRL+F12 > Webpages > Page zoom) but it will be applied for all sites.
