Opera install/uninstall problem in Windows?

, , , , , ,

Install

If you have problem in installing Opera using MSI installer, use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility & then install using MSI installer or try classic installer (except Windows Vista).

If you get Error 1327. Invaild Drive: error, see this.

If above fails, download PortableOpera, unzip & move all files except the following from PortableOpera directory to Opera installation directory (C:\Program Files\Opera\).

OperaLauncher.exe
PortableOpera.exe
PortableOpera.htm
PortableOpera.ini

Uninstall

If you have problem in uninstalling Opera, use Revo Uninstaller. (Backup entire profile & mail directories before uninstallation).

If you have multiple Opera installed and want to uninstall particular Opera, use MyUninstaller. MyUninstaller can show path to installation folder. If you used classic installer, run Uninst\unwise.exe from Opera installation folder to uninstall that Opera.

Of course your link to the download page, will not display the Classic installer as Opera stupidily buried it at http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?opsys=Windows&lng=en&ver=9.50&platform=Windows&local=y.

You have to click Show other versions link.

I didn't post it because I have to update link when new version of Opera is released.

Exactly, the new placement of the installer is not user-friendly.

Other than size, what is the difference between Classic Installer and Opera English? I am wanting to try the new version, but am REALLY nervous about all the chatter about people losing things i.e. mail, and their system not being able to handle the memory requirements for its use (they use terms like "memory leak" and "100% memory usage"). I'm not what you'd call someone who's in-the-know about computer programming, so any reassurances and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

See Opera FAQ #67.

Backup your current Opera profile & mail directories.

Install Opera in new directory (C:\Program Files\Opera 9.50\) or use PortableOpera (Unzip & run PortableOpera.exe), transfer settings (See How to transfer all settings from one Opera installation to another?) from old Opera. Now you can try Opera 9.50 without making any changes to old Opera and you can simultaneously run both versions of Opera.

Thanks. I'll have to print out your instructions and give it a shot.

After selecting a game to play by clicking on a number from the archives, nothing happens. This was not a problem with Opera 9.0 and is not a problem when using IE8.

I can't check it.

The techs at that site have tried it as well and wrote: "We have been looking into a game issue within Opera and Flash 10. So far we have not found a suitable suggestion to resolve the problem. Our games are working within Internet Explorer. If you are willing, please utilize Internet Explorer as we look into this matter further. We thank you in advance for your time and patience."
