Opera Profile Creator

, , , ,

You can create another profile manually but it is cumbersome in Windows (In Linux, use command line opera -pd ~/opera-profile-new/ to create new profile). Opera Profile Creator was created using AutoHotkey to make profile creation easier.

You can use another profile to

  • login to another accounts of a site simultaneously.
  • load a site that crashes Opera frequently.
  • play with settings without affecting your existing profile.
  • check whether there is a problem in existing profile.

Download (size: 204 KB), unzip, place OperaProfileCreator.exe anywhere and run it to create new profile. Click the newly created shortcut to start Opera with new clean profile.

You can create as many profiles as you want and run them simultaneously with single Opera installation.

  • Path to new profile directory should not have trailing slash (/) when you enter it manually.
  • Path to shortcut should end with .lnk as shown in screenshot.

On my computer always working with two users of Opera, I do it manually, (copy and rename folder Opera), but this is pretty easy. Thank You Tamil!

I'm afraid I don't follow the meaning of the "Opera Profile Creator was created to make it easier using AutoHotkey" sentence. Is a word missing perhaps? What does the macro-recording program AutoHotkey have to do with Opera Profile Creator, exactly?

Thanks Tamil this is great stuff!! Could you make something to recover file extensions from cache??? (*.MP3,*.FLV,*.WMV,*.GIF,*.JPG,*.HTML) they are missing since Opera 9.27.
If it can be created with real name too, It will be awesome.

Claudio writes: Hi, I have a problem with Opera 10.10. Sometimes, using the second profile, some images from sites visited with the first profile are displayed instead of right images. I do not know why, maybe the cache directory is the same and opera assigns the same filename to those images. For example, I visit my university site with first profile, and when I visit a forum with second profile instead seeing smiley I see my university's logo. The only way to solve seems to be to delete entire cache. I tried to delete the two profiles and to recreate them, but nothing changed. Any idea?

Opera Profile Creator is for Windows. Create a new shortcut with the following or run the following command in terminal.
opera -pd ~/opera-profile-new/

Suedehead writes: Hello and thanks for the reply. That's the command I used, it created a new profile (folder and files) but after closing that browsing session I wasn't able to open it again, I've clicked on all the files inside the "profile-02" folder with no luck. And of course, if I click on the "Opera" icon it opens the usual profile. Is there any way to keep using the nre one?, Or can I only temporarily browse with it?

Tamil Friday, January 28, 2011 1:26:22 AM

Use the same command to open again.

Hi!
I was using a similar/Manual way to create custom profiles, but I have a problem when using Extensions/Unite, because they rewrite the other profiles so it's a problem.
Using your app, are the Extensions / Unite, completely independent on its profile¿?

Thx! wink

A popular use for Opera Profile Creator is to make it easier for a user to move Opera Profile to another (non-system) drive, which moves Opera Temp & Cache files away from the system drive to keep it clean. Otherwise blue screen often shows up at PC wakeup from Standby due to disk corruption, especially when Opera rushes to update staff at wakeup.

Can you add "Pass to new Local Directory" field to this app, and make it change all relevant links in Opera:config? Its very frustrating to do it manually each time a new profile is created. You can even pre-populate the field with existing pass, in case a user doesn't want to change it. To avoid user mix up in profile transition, it makes sense to keep the same profile structure though, which consist of 2 folders: Profile and Local.

You can install Opera as stand-alone installation (USB) or use symbolic link.
