Site specific proxy server in Opera

, , , ,

You can configure proxy server settings on a per site basis by editing override.ini file manually.

If you want to configure google.com with proxy 127.0.0.1:8080, close Opera, open override.ini file in any text editor from profile directory, add google.com below [Overrides] section & then add the following at the end of file.

[google.com]
Proxy|HTTP server=127.0.0.1:8080
Proxy|HTTPS server=127.0.0.1:8080
Proxy|FTP server=127.0.0.1:8080

Nice
The last time I had checked if I could manually override the other opera.ini settings I had no luck.

So what other settings work?

I don't know.

Thanks Tamil, I just asked in case there was a specific category of settings that could change.

There are many useful setting overrides we cannot use yet, like zoom, on/off images, user/author mode. I can't see any reason for blocking us to use them in override.ini.

I think that this option doesn't work on me. I put 'ip check' site to override.ini for testing, then went to that site, but it still showed my real ip address. I tried some different proxy servers, but no joy.

How do you know that it works?

So this is suppose to work, even when proxy is NOT enabled in Opera prefs?

Add a site in override.ini with proxy as 127.0.0.1:8080. Start Proxomitron, open log window in Proxomitron and you will see the connection when you open that site.

Can i use any proxy in override.ini?

Should this override.ini proxy work, even when proxy is NOT enabled in Opera prefs?

You can use but for testing use 127.0.0.1:8080 & Proxomitron.

I don't know. I will test & update this comment after some time.

I explicitly want to enable proxy ONLY for some specific sites and not use proxy generally (proxy disabled in Opera prefs). Is this even possible?

EDIT. Got it Work! I enabled proxy in Opera prefs, but leaved address and port boxes empty. Now proxy is enabled in Opera, but without proxy servers.

EDIT: User error. Its working just fine. Thanks Tamil.

Was glad to find. Test with 9.26
No luck yet! Tried w/o proximitron, just view with tcpview.
Regardless of override.ini edits, opera always go straight as global proxy settings.
Btw, site must be shown twice, in [overrides] section also?

Nope. Add site name once below [overrides] section.

Does it happens when you restart Opera?

does this setting support wildcard?
e.g.
[*.typepad.com]
Proxy|HTTP server=127.0.0.1:8080
