Opera Shutdown

When there is a transfer, Opera title bar will contain Transfers XX:XX - Opera and this will change to Transfers - Opera when transfer completes. OperaShutdown.exe will check periodically for this change and will show the following dialog box when transfer completes. If there is no response from you during timeout period, it will shutdown/hibernate computer.

Opera shutdown/hibernate confirmation dialog
Confirmation dialog

  • OperaShutdown.exe will beep and run in background.
  • You must keep transfers tab in Opera active.
  • To close OperaShutdown.exe at any time use keyboard shortcut, Win+X. Opera Shutdown will beep before exit. To change exit keyboard, open OperaShutdown.ini and change the value for Exit Shortcut. See this to know modifier symbols to define hotkeys.
  • If you use other than English language, open OperaShutdown.ini and change the value of Trigger Text to <Transfers as in your language file> - Opera.
  • To shutdown instead of hibernate, open OperaShutdown.ini and change the value of Hibernate to 0.
  • To close Opera without system shutdown/hibernate, open OperaShutdown.ini and change the value of Test to 1 and in Opera disable confirm exit in Tools > Preferences... > Advanced > Browsing

Run OperaShutdown.exe once and it will create OperaShutdown.ini in same location of OperaShutdown.exe

nukie Friday, March 6, 2009 9:30:06 PM

Tamil, how about adding another option to simply exit Opera after transfer finished? Most of the time I only want Opera to exit after transfers, not shutting down/hibernating the system...

Tamil Friday, March 6, 2009 11:35:53 PM

Okay, I will add it.

Hi, it's cool program but in Czech language useless, because Downloads contains diacritic and then it isn't working. So I did a instruction how you can use it in other language where is diacritic in title

Hi Tamil,
When you install Opera Shutdown/Hibernate, where do you drop the OperaShutdown.ini file?

In the Opera Folder or one of the many subfolders?
Help needed please.
Bruce

Tamil Wednesday, July 28, 2010 8:38:27 AM

OperaShutdown.ini will be created automatically inside OperaShutdown.exe directory.

Bruce Shadrackbruceshadrack Wednesday, July 28, 2010 10:54:54 AM

Great, but where do you suggest that I locate the OperaShutdown.exe directory?
In C:\Program Files\Opera perhaps. This is where I have dropped the ini file but it still does not appear to work.
You need to indicate what location specifically to locate the file. You give no clues in your blog.
Thanks.

Tamil Wednesday, July 28, 2010 11:00:07 AM

Where did you place OperaShutdown.exe file? When you run OperaShutdown.exe it will create OperaShutdown.ini automatically there.

Bruce Shadrackbruceshadrack Wednesday, July 28, 2010 11:42:21 AM

How will the ini file work to control an Opera shutdown or hibernate if it is in another folder other than Program Files\Opera?

Are you suggesting that you execute the file anywhere on the C drive or in some specific location?

More help required please. confused

You can execute OperaShutdown.exe from any drive but OperaShutdown.exe & OperaShutdown.ini should be in same directory.

Yo Tamil,
Your OperaShutdown.exe program sux, big time. It will not work for me at all no matter what I do with it. I have deleted it and dumped it. Not worth the effort trying to make it work. It should work but............................

It didn't work for me. sad I changed the Trigger Text string to "Descargas - Opera" (as it appears in spanish) but it didn't work.

Tamil Tuesday, October 5, 2010 11:35:48 AM

Did you restart OperaShutdown after changing trigger text?

Juan M. Araújojmaraujo Friday, October 8, 2010 1:45:32 PM

Oops, I'm not sure if I did. I'll check again. Thanks, Tamil. smile

Just an update on my latest comment: OperaShutdown worked fine after a program restart. Thanks, Tamil! wink

One last thing. Can I make a suggestion if you ever update OperaShutdown? A tray icon to know that the program is running would be great.

Thank you, again.
