Opera in a video game

, , , ...

I study image, multimedia and computer science in an engineering school. For our game project, my group and I wanted to develop a game similar to Super Smash Bros Brawl (Nintendo). As a fan of Opera, I've decided to create and integrate the character : Opera in 3D. This game is just for study and personal interest, nothing commercial. We only had five weeks for developping a 2D/3D game. But it was really fun to work with my five classmates on this project.

So, do you want to see the result ? I've made a short demo of our game.
Here is the link : Smashtein Garbage - Demo
At the same time, let's promote HTML5 and the Ogg Theora codec. To see the video, Opera 10.50 snapshot will be needed or another Web browser with the video+Ogg Theora implemented. I was playing with the border-radius and CSS transition. So, on the top of the video, you can find a small video width controller using these CSS3 features.
you also can see some pictures of the game in my album : http://my.opera.com/The-Doc/albums/show.dml?id=2204201

New semester, new assignments

,

Okay, there are new assignments : collecting phrases that we are not comfortable with in order to improve again and again our English skills.

So, I've decided to build on my own database using my webdeloper skills (PHP / MySQL). Due to the lack of spare time, I only create something really basic. You can find my list here : http://ah.pandaco.net/s2.english

Based on this database, I wrote the following text (254 words) :

Hello, today I’m going to talk about Linus Benedict Torvalds, the creator of Linux which is, as you know, a free operating system. According to me, we are all concerned about this subject since we do computer training.

So, let’s start. Linus was born on the 28th December 1969 in Finland. He created an operating system for his personal computer. Some people were impressed by his initiative and helped him in this development. The first version of Linux was released in 1992 with no detected bugs. Now, there are lots of Linux distributions like Redhat, Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu...

As for me, I constantly think much of this operating system, which is flawless to me. I always keep myself posted on new releases. It doesn’t take long for me to realize that if I applied for a job, it would be in computing field. I'll plan to establish a career in an important company, like Opera Software. As a regular member of its website, I took a look at their job applications and found a summer internship with an interesting work schedule.

I would be grateful for the opportunity to work with them. I’m well organized, and I enjoy working in a team environment. However, my background and skills are still insufficient, that’s why in order to equip myself to be a suitable candidate for this, I’ve practiced a lot.
I remain acutely motivated because I think I could learn a great deal about programming and network security during the internship.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
