Ranting in the dark

Well, there's that - OLPC got enough momentum to melt the phone lines of the Give one, Get One program. People have reported long waiting times, chaos, confusion - all in all things that show some overwhelming demand. And while someone might not have been too well prepared for the Give One, Get one, it was still very popular.

In fact, it is so popular that it's being extended. And not week at a time - until the end of the year. That's right - you can have an OLPC from XO giving until December 31st. That's great news for me and I think it is a very good move as well, since coverage of the actual program spread a lot of news and attracted much interest to the laptop.

Now the next good move for the XO guys would be to openly allow at least Give Many Get Many for international locations. If it is so complicated to ship a machine for every individual abroad, at least ease up the process for large orders. Larger orders - Larger donations. For example - we've demand for exactly 60 machines and I'm sure we could find recepients even for a 100. And some people have reported much much bigger numbers.

So don't wait - make two kids happy, help spread education. Blog about the OLPC, share your experiences or useful critiques. Link to it, talk about it and get a few, to entertain yourself and the kids in your life. Because every time you do it another kid gets a chance to do something extraordinary.
