A Wonderful Life

Lebaran is a time for sharing

"Lebaran" or Idul Fitri is a time for sharing with others who can not afford to celebrate "Lebaran". "Lebaran" is identic with new clothes, food, new things. So before Idul Fitri, markets are always crowded with people who want to buy some stuff they need on Idul Fitri. Parents will get new clothes for their children before they get something for themselves. Mothers will be busy to prepare some snacks that will be served in the living room. Sometimes they will be busy renovating their houses or even just repaint the wall so their houses will look different on Idul Fitri.
People who have more money will do charity to help poor people or families so they can celebrate Idul Fitri too. Some people prefer giving some money. Some people prefer buying new clothes. Some people like to give snacks and there are some more, different, ways to help poor people.
My sister and me usually get some new clothes for my nephews who celebrate Idul Fitri or for those who don't celebrate Idul Fitri. I like to see their happy faces getting new clothes. We also prepare some snacks in our living room. we have done it since my mother was alive an we are still happy to do it.
When Idul Fitri comes, older people who have earned money will give their young relatives some money. So children are waiting for this moment to collect some money and they can spend it for something they like or they need. But this tradition is not always the same. In my hometown, Magelang, only close relatives will get this kind of pocket money but in East Java, children will visited all the houses in the community for getting some money even though it is not as much as that they get from their own families.
