My first Lebaran without my father

This Lebaran was different from the years before. We used to do Pulang Kampung to accompany my father to celebrate Idul Fitri because he was a Muslim. This year we did Pulang Kampung to do "Kendurian" for the 40th day after he passed away. Kendurian is a Javanese Muslim tradition to pray for wishes the people have. We did not do as much as what we used to do because no one lives in the house anymore.
I left Surabaya at 10:00 PM on the 18th of September. My brother picked me and my sister up. we had so much stuff in the car. Before We left Surabaya I had a phone call from
Dirk
and then we kept communicating on my way on my.opera until I arrived in Magelang and he just went to bed ... ... On the way, I saw people doing Mudik on their own way. They also had a lot of stuff with them. The traffic was not really crowded that night therefore we had to be careful because there were people who rode motorcycles with so much stuff on the motor and with their children. I fell asleep in the first three hours because I was really tired and sleepy. I woke up in the middle of the night and then accompanied my brother driving the car ... ... Hm, I missed a little ... my neighbor's son, a 6 years old boy, went with us. On the way we dropped by at a restaurant to have some drinks and food. after that we continued our trip and after another 4 hours we arrived at home in Magelang. It took about 8 hours from Surabaya to Magelang. The different atmosphere caught us when it was very quiet. My father used to wait for us to get home. My second sister and her family temporarily stayed in the house for 40 days. It is a Javanese myth that the soul of the person who died will stay in the house until the 40th day. We did not sleep after we arrived there because we had a catholic prayer for my mother who passed away sixteen years ago. When the prayer started, suddenly the boy who went with me cried loudly because he had a toothache. I thought he was too tired. (I will tell about him later). It was Idul Fitri's eve, we call it "Malam Takbiran". In the morning we used to prepare ourselves to welcome our father after he finished "Sholat Led". But that day was Sunday. All my siblings went to church but I did not because I had the boy who is Muslim with me. I was alone at home with him. People in my village have a special tradition on Idul Fitri. After "Sholat Led" (or Led Prayer) they will gather and then go around from house to house to say "Happy Idul Fitri". The members of the family stand in front of their houses and shake hands with the people and after that they all will join with the line so it makes the line getting longer and longer. My house is on the corner of the village so we always shake hands with almost all the people in my village. We used to stand there beside our father and people always told us that our family has so many members. But this Idul Fitri I stood there myself and luckily then my Muslim niece companied me ... ... ...
