Is there a point to dotmobi?

David Meyer from ZDNet seems to agree.
It's not going to make it any easier to access the content — in fact it will add a couple of keystrokes to what you're doing
- Windsor Holden, senior analyst with telecommunications consultancy Analysys
You don't need a separate domain to do that...Another mobile industry attempt to control something that's uncontrollable — another quasi-walled garden
- James Enck, analyst with Daiwa Securities
I'm sure more will follow.

There appears to be almost universal agreement that dotMobi is unnecessary and will fail...
The reasons put forward have been quite logical, but you see, many times products that defy conventional logic succeed simply because they have touched an "intangible" chord in the market's/user's mind. I think there is a reasonable chance that dotMobi could become one such example.
Unlike other TLDs, dotMobi is for a device whose numbers are four times the number of PCS...this fact alone makes this a worthwhile effort - well, if you ask me if I'd bet MY money on dotMobi, perhaps not (:-)), but you know, you never know!
Btw, I co-ordinate a dotMobi directory @ Mobinomy.com ( http://www.mobinomy.com ) more as a hobby, and I have already seem some decent content coming off the newly arrived dotMobi sites. It'll be interesting to see what lies ahead for .mobi
