Dreams verus Goals

I am a firm believer in goals. I think that dreams are fantastic and have their place in life; but to move forward, you definitely need goals.
Goals are what motivated the explorers of old, men like Columbus and Cook, Magellan and Shackleton. In fact, all of the great men of history and business had goals, and not only dreams. Without goals, you are just a rudderless ship on the ocean of life, a traveler without a destination.

As I've said, dreams definitely have their place in life! Dreams allow you to hope and imagine wonderful things. They usually bring a sense of peace and calm over you when you are wrapped in them. The nature of dreams however, means that they do not involve action. They are a passive exercise.
A goal on the other is a plan that is put into action, and generally speaking, they produce results; hopefully the desired ones.
If I think that travel is a great way to spend my time, and spend hours thinking of travel, but never book a ticket, then I am a dreamer with dreams. If I think travel is a great way to spend my time, get a passport, book a ticket and set out on my journey, then I have goals and set out to achieve them.
That's the big difference between dreams and goals. One is passive, the other is active. We should never let fear of the unknown stop us. If everyone in history had the view that it's safer to dream; then we would not even have the Internet, with e-mail or the world wide web, the primary tool that we all use today to share our thoughts with the world.
So, as much as I enjoy dreams and dreaming, I would much rather focus on goals. Right now, I have a goal, and I fully intend to set out achieving it!
