Broken Traffic Lights and Global Warming

Several times this year, I've encountered broken traffic lights while driving around. In fact, listening to the traffic report on the radio, it's obvious that this phenomenon is becoming more and more frequent. I wonder if the authorities have given any thought to the economic impact and the overall effect on global warming though?

I wonder if the authorities have given any thought to the economic impact and the overall effect on global warming though? As I sat in the traffic at a four way intersection, I considered the serious effect caused for the most part, by a simple lack of maintenance.

The longer than normal lines caused by a broken traffic light, have an immediate impact on the economy in terms of wasted time (man-hours paid for by employers), and delays in product and service delivery, amongst other things.

In terms of global warming, it's worse. There are often hundreds of extra stationary vehicles, pumping heat and pollution into the atmosphere for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. In some cases, traffic lights have been out of order for 5 days or more.

I hope that local and national governments around the world, will give serious consideration to the negative effects caused broken traffic lights, and take steps to minimize these effects. Carrying out simple maintenance seems to be the most obvious solution.
