A Bard's Tale...

El título del tema hace inevitable que piense en el The Bard's Tale (1985) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bard's_Tale_(1985) -. La música contenida en este "A Bard's Tale" (Cuento de un Bardo) es maravillosamente sugestiva: magia épica (reforzada con una percusión potente), escenario idílico (en el bosque, al lado de un lago, bajo una encina, con unos cisnes (¿o son gansos?)...), atmósfera celta (el bardo, la tribu y, presidiendo, el jefe y el sumo hechicero, el druida... cual cuento de Asterix y Obélix). La música nos sugiere el ambiente medieval (y como medieval-celta lo califican los que la han comentado en la red), pero, realmente, habríamos de situarnos más allá en el tiempo: los celtas lucharon (y sucumbieron) en tiempos romanos, cuando César... por lo que la influencia medieval fuerza a la imaginación a pensar en un bardo medieval recitando un cuento celta tradicional, transmitido oralmente durante siglos... ¿quizás algo tan tradicional y tan profundamente arraigado en el alma humana como es el amor? (en baja voz: un amor llamado Federica)...

Es todo un temazo en su estructura, idea/concepción y armonía.

De su autor, Dipa, según su profile en modarchive, resulta ser suya esta webpage: www.xoduslab.com. De resultas de esto, parece ser que nuestro autor es italiano y que su nombre (según el whois del dominio) es Davide Di Pasquale, lo cual explica su nick, Dipa, contracción de "DI PAscale". La página ofrecida en el mod (una redirección con extensión it -por lo de Italia-) no es válida en la actualidad. Por el email contenido en el whois (y que no voy a reproducir aquí), su actual nick (no necesariamente relacionado con la música) es D3vid.

"A Bard's Tale" es el tema preferido de su autor. Además, él destaca estos otros títulos: Broken Dimension, Underworld Story, The Light of Love, Lost Souls, Sad Princess, Feel the Rythm y Visionary Future. Quizás en un futuro próximo vuelva a retomar a DipA con alguno de estos temas por él preferidos.

"Paradise"

Estamos en la Euskal Party 7 (23-25 julio de 1999). La convocatoria reúne, en San Sebastián, a 1200 locos por la informática. Pero los asistentes fueron muchos más (a través de las visitas diarias realizadas al recinto o mediante el seguimiento a través de internet). Allí se reunieron toda clase de usuarios de informática (desde programadores hasta jugones... pasando por grafistas, músicos, linuxeros, etc).

Y de la multichannel compo de dicho evento es que traigo ahora al recuerdo este "Paradise" (Paraíso), factura de Fx!/Purple's Studios (Fx! ha estado, además -y que yo sepa-, en los grupos Eklipse y CrashNet). Con 27 puntos, quedó en el puesto nº 7. El tema es tranquilo, con una atmósfera romántica antes que paradisíaca... pero claro, es que está dedicado a "Laura". El nombre real de Fx! me es desconocido, pero este es ya el segundo tema que, de él, traigo al blog.

The Other World...

"De Otro Mundo" (1998) es el título de este tema que, en mi opinión, es de los mejores de los que tengo firmados por Enrique Dubois, aka DJKiKe, K-Dubois, Dubu...

Gracias al contacto mantenido con KiKe, es que os puedo pasar una autobiografía de él (lamentablemente en inglés para aquellos que no dominais dicho idioma). Aquí la url: Enrique Dubois's WikiBio

En el sitio "Amiga Music Preservation" podéis encontrar otros módulos de DjKiKe (Believe in U, Crystal made, Dreaming, TheOne, entre otros). En esta misma página se nos informa de que fue miembro de DISC, Efecto Caos, The Banner. (Info más completa a través de su autobiografía).

Precisamente, haciendo una review del citado tema TheOne, encuentro este comentario:

"I normally love DJKiKe's works, and this one's no exception.

This artist takes no prisoners -- he gets out there on the dance floor, does his business, then steps gracefully out. He doesn't waste time with needless mewling intros or other flash-in-the-pan: when DJKiKe is the artist of a mod, you come to expect a certain level of quality. "The One" delivers for me, both in style (Dance), mode of attack (zip, zap, zup, buddy if you ain't movin', you're either deaf or dead).

I don't know if the woman in the voice samples is Sharon Giselle (of "Trance of Heaven" fame, one of DJKiKe's earlier works), but it kind of sounds like her. Machts nichts...this is one hoppin' mod, no matter who's doing the singing...with DJKiKe at the helm, you can be sure the finished product will whet yer appetite fer kickin' pirate musics!

Pero ciñéndome al tema que traigo, voy a intentar explicar el porqué me gusta. Y es que el título y el contenido están relacionados (condición indispensable para que un tema sea de mi agrado)... me hace pensar en "otro mundo", especialmente la instrumentación loop del principio que será omnipresente en todo el tema en distintas formas y formará el "cimiento" de la estructura general del edificio armónico del module. También me agradan mucho las voces corales. En fin, a mí me gusta (y mucho). ¿Y a ti?...

... Así es que comparto la opinión vertida sobre este tema por el comentarista de "The Mod Archive" en su review, por lo que hago mias sus palabras:

"This is some of the best work I have ever heard from DJ KiKE. This song definitely captures the trance style, and the eponymous "other world" comes through well. He uses dreamy licks and riffs, with a gorgeous jungle drumtrack to back it up; risers and fallers are used with alternating frequencies to get that true trancy feel about the whole thing. The bridge is packed with action, with dreamy space chords in the background, and pianos singing the melody line. Well done DJ KiKE! On closer inspection into the makeup of the module, it becomes apparent that it is of a very simple formula, followed directly to the very kickbass. Most of the afore-mentioned sweet drumtrack, unfortunately, is a sample in itself, which loses some points in the tech rating. However, this is a stylishly-written module, and deserves a lot of credit. Definitely worth a special place on your hard drive."
