I don't know if RoR is prone to injections. That is my problem with php frameworks. But I was able to solve it using DSN (Data Source Name). I have to dig into RoR yet. My only problem is my existing clients are using PHP frameworks so migrating legacy web apps would be a pain.

From the looks of it RoR is appealing, but in terms of experience PHP frameworks have evolved so much already over time.

I perfectly understand what you mean...its like saying i wanna port all my java projects into c++...though doable but it wud be timewasting or at least time consuming plus resources...n lets not think of projects that are in large scale we talking bout retraining workers...etc

So my adice to anyone who is thinking of porting into rails is..
First: did u have any previouse scripting...web application language u used before and are very proficient in...especially php...
Second: are you a beginner

If is the first as in ur case i would say sick with php...since akelos n kohana ...and from what hae since they leverage php power n easy scaling attributes, speed n implement the MVC framework exactly like rails but in php then stick with php...if u eva have a free time...learn ruby the programming language...

For the seoncd...if u just a beginner ...and havnt much experinence in php or ruby on rails...then its cool....simple learn the basics of ruby language and u good to go.....

As in ur case Joseph either way u still win..u get to use Php which u preetty good at n use the MVC framework that leverages n improves ur experince n productivity in php...n plus that means u inherit rails cool things n php advance-ness...lol

I agree dude, but I have to learn RoR. SOme of our new clients are requiring us to use it. SO far I still have no time to learn it, although RoR CRUD is basic. Plus most of our hosting partners don't have RoR built on them yet. Some have but are expensive. Our clients have to resort to cheaper ones considering the economic crisis. Really I have no problem with learning new technology. I am speaking as an outsource programmer.

RoR is promising, same as PHP 6.0 with advance OOP techniques now coming. I am most excited!

wel then as someone who has gone through the dreal and is stil learning more...simple first start by getting a small tutortial or check google for ruby tutorials n learn how ruby works..its basics..it shudnt take u time...atleast in ur free time...just learn the ruby language itself...trust me it will help humongously....rails is only a small set of modules....but the core is still ruby...so whenever u in free time peek up a book or online tutorial learn ruby n its basics...u will be surprise how easy it will be when u wanna learn rails especially since u now use a MVC based php framework...

like the screenshot of the project above...what made life real esy for me was reading an online tutrial n reading a pdf tutorial on rails...its called Simple Rails 2...its great n it lets you get hang with the lastest feautres in Rails...
The lynda tutorial are abit old so they use a diffferent version of rails but only minimal changes have occured....though i gt stuck when i ws building the shopping cart for it....it seems some scaffolding in the new rails creates some restrictions but am reading up the other lynda tutorial to give me some insite into how to solve it...but i love it...still...the CRUD is easy to create too like u said...

have decide to instead rather than re-do a whole tutorial on making a blog with the lynda tutorials...to rather sharppen my skills in parts i may have probles with like user logins n access previleges n control n also try to make a customm shopping cart n see how i can build that to my own feel n look..so far its interesting plus am learning jquery right at the side
